My sons have and have bought books for me from EBay they both sell too

Oh boy, you're going to get a lot of responses to this one! We have a lot of eBayers here. I've bought (and sold) a lot of stuff on eBay, and I started with books. In fact, I went on to sell many books on eBay. These days I sell them on Amazon instead. It's easier.

I have never bought anything on Ebay. There just hasn't ever been anything I've wanted that bad.

I'm surprised the thrift store wouldn't take your books. They sell really well around here. I usally buy children's books. There are always people going through the adult books.

Maybe they didn't like what I had, who knows. Or maybe they didn't want to unload my van when she saw how many I had. LOL

Alisande....how do you sell on Amazon? Do you have a site that would provide info or a "how to" site?

Sounds like it might be another resource for selling books.

Any books that don't sell, or that the thrift store will not take, might be welcomed by a library volunteer group.

The local Friends of the Library accept books, and have some sales. The money raised helps fund children's programs, and probably other things locally.

Oh, gosh, I've made over 750 purchases on eBay since mid-2001, and I have a 100% positive feedback rating. (I know that the rating shown only reflects the past 12 months, but I have never ever received a negative or even a neutral feedback. I have always received positive feedback.)

I've purchased makeup, shoes, books, yarn, a replacement fender for a car, an in-line leaf basket for the pool sweep, CPAP masks and replacement parts for the masks, Pottery Barn fitted slipcovers for the PB Basic sofa and chair, Pottery Barn drapes, a Pottery Barn chandelier, Pampered Chef items, cell phones, and more.

I've had less than half a dozen crappy buying experiences.

I've never sold anything on eBay, but I don't rule out selling in the future.

You might consider donating your books (or some of them) to hospitals. Long-term patients would appreciate something new to read. :-)

Thanks, Lindsey. I never thought about the hospitals! I did have a few small boxes that didn't sell. I have some more books to list but will not until after Easter. True Crime mostly. I got into a faze several years back about true crime. Don't know why, Hubs was thinking I was trying to find a way to get rid of him, I read those books so much. LOL

Tell your hubs that true crime books are fascinating! Not from which to get ideas (LOL!), but the amazement at how some folks' minds work, to think they could get away with that stuff!!

A year before my brother died, he was hospitalized for over 9 weeks. I was there with him (100 miles from my home) for all but a couple of nights. I was so grateful to all of the folks who donated books for me to read!

I have both bought and sold on E-Bay. The biggest think I sold was a saddle that went from PA to Washington state. That was fun to pack!
I once did some buyng and selling to make money but stopped that after hating to do all the income tax forms.
I'll offer one piece of advice. Always insure the item and don't tell the receiver you did. I have heard of a lot of people who said the item was damaged in shipping. Had that happen to me too and the lady shut right up (after boohooing that she would never have paid that much) when I told her to go to the Post Office because it was insured. I don't think the item was damaged to start with.

For many years when eBay first started and our daughter was still at home, she and I worked together selling on eBay. I did all the typing and she did the putting things on and taking pictures. We had a good business. She would buy things and I did buy somethings, but they were bought through her on eBay. I bought 6 sewing machines at different times one year and gave 4 of them away as birthday gifts to my girls and one was a wedding shower gift. They were new Kenmore machines and I got them through Sears. I don't know if they still sell that way or not. Oh, I also bought a Kenmore sweeper. I have not been on eBay for a long, long time to look at anything. Sometimes it is just fun to look and see what things are selling for.

Now about the used books. There is a hospital not far from us that does have used books people donate and you can buy them, $.50 soft cover and $1.00 for hard back. Nice. We have bought and donated there.

Half Price Books also will buy books from you. I can't remember what they pay, but if you are just wanting to get them out of your way, that is another option. It just isn't very close to us. We have taken a lot of books there at one time when we needed to clean out some space.

I admit that I buy a lot of things on ebay. Mostly stamping and scrapbook items that I can't find in the stores in my area. I used to sell on ebay but Canada's postage costs went way up so I don't bother now.

I've bought probably over 500 things on eBay, sold that many things too. The biggest thing I've sold is a car, getting ready to list another in a week or so. Only a few bad experiences. I don't like the changes they've made lately (especially with feedback), so I don't really do a lot of selling anymore.

About once a year our library has a used book sale. It's a good place to donate.

My husband has bought 2 cars on e-bay. Also have bought dvd's for my grandson mostly Barney and Elmo and he has
bought watches.

I've bought books, plants, dvds, cds, collectibles, marbles, dice, billiard balls...old, because I collect them. All kinds of stuff. I bought a cast iron statue once and she only charged me $20 to ship it. Weighed a ton. She packed it so well....I wouldn't have packed the darn thing for twice that amount.

I've never sold anything on ebay. Keep saying I will, but I haven't.

I've bought a few things (a book, a board game, a Christmas ornament). I don't think I've bought more than 5 things. I've sold a few things too (craft pattern books) but really it was more hassle than it was worth.

I have bought several knitting and crocheting patterns on Ebay.

It's wonderful that you took the time to list, sell and ship the books. That way they are back in the world and not in the dump. It was a very "green" thing to do!

I've bought and sold on ebay over the years and gotten some good deals. Recently I got a knitting needle holder and a Swiss Army knife. I usually don't buy from anyone below 97 percent. The only problem I've had is for a blender I did not receive. Found out insurance doesn't cover you if the PO has a record of leaving the item on the porch. So I was out about $20 for a used blender. Somewhere someone is using my blender. Grrrrr!

I buy and sell on ebay all the time. Have you tried half.com? This is great for the ones that didn't sell, they list them until they do sell, without a fee until it sells!

I have a great ebay story....
I have both bought and sold, but my favorite was a family bible that I found on Ebay, with a lot of genealogy information in it. I wanted to purchase it for my cousin for Christmas. We are both genealogy nuts, and this bible was from his direct family.
As it goes, this huge coffee table bible was a steal at $25.00 but at the last minute, some person came in a we went head to head on this until the price reached $75.00. I had to stop because it was out of my price range, and I was honestly sick to my stomache that I had lost this priceless piece of family history to who knows? I was crushed to say the least.
I sent the person an email the next day and told him that I was crushed, but could he possibly photocopy the family info in the bible for me for my family history?
Turns out he is a pastor that re-constructs old bibles in his spare time. He said he would sell me the bible, for his cost on one condition....that he would fix the binding and the brass lock on it and mail it to me in perfect condition. I was thrilled !
I got the bible, it was about 8 inches thick and about 100 years old. A real beauty. The pastor would not allow me to pay him for his work or shipping.
I sent the bible to my cousin after Christmas, but it was truly a wonderful ebay experience after all.

I have bought and sold lots of items on Ebay. I even did a webpage that listed KTers who were selling on Ebay so we could see if they had anything we wanted to buy. I used to update the website weekly, but now it's more like yearly.

Too much (answering the question). I'm now trying my hand at selling.

I've bought a few things, but my nephew uses it it a lot. He purchased a MAC computer, just last week bought another laptop. So far I haven't sold anything, but thinking about it. Seems like there are a lot of books on Ebay, but when I talk to people buying books at yard sales, they say that buying used books is the way to go. Ebay might be a good idea.

I have never purchased from e-Bay. I hate paying shipping costs.
I donate all my books to our Friends of the Library. The book sale is in two weeks and they said cookbooks sell really well. I took a lot down on Friday and will take a bunch again on Tuesday if I don't have jury duty.
