what to look for in a washlet
Comments (2)We chose the Gerber "Avalanche" toilet and love it. It's practically identical to the $$$ Toto model, has a 2 stage flush and works wonderfully. From your pics, I think it would fit in quite well. It IS a bit taller than the old style toilets...but, that's a good thing. They can be had for under $200. Also, it uses an oval seat, but you want that for a washlet. Ours is outfitted with the Toto "Washlet." I highly recommend it. Goodbye toilet paper! It is a self-cleaning unit and does everything but fold your shirts. Yes, you will need an outlet to plug into, but you said you could handle that. Toto does make a complete, tankless toilet for about $3,000. The "Washlet" is a very well-engineered unit that attaches to any oval-lid toilet for about $800. Well-worth checking out. My wife deals in custom plumbing fixtures and we love ours!...See MoreWhat does 'take it to sheetrock' mean?
Comments (4)I'm not skilled in any of it. Dad can do it all. He definitely won't be taping or doing dry wall. He hates it. Nephew is a painter - I can help with that - if needed. I'd love to take more time and put more money away, but...we've been through some serious stress already. I'd hate to air my dirty laundry, but here it is in a nutshell. Back in March we started the loan application. We are both teachers for almost 30+ years combined - secure jobs. As our broker says "squeaky clean credit, you can't get much better than that". Bank was in no hurry to loan money. Were approved in June with plans to sign the next week, so we took our own money to get the project rolling. Workers dug out kitchen, mudroom and porch area. We're living in dirt!!! Mind you, it's summer, we aren't working, and so on... State comes into bank and says stop all lending just as our loan is being finalized. We're living off of our savings which has been reduced substantially. On to the next bank. They want 10 comps instead of 3. Again, in no hurry. Now it's been 7 months since we applied to the first bank and we are getting much less than we asked for. Good bye granite, goodbye windows, etc. However, the teachers have learned their lesson. I may just do builder grade to be safe, and then let dad do the upgrades where we decide.(he'll be living with us). It keeps him busy too. Anyway, reality has set in, and all of the wonderful selections I've made have been tough to let go of. I'm holding strong on the hide-a-hose though. My builder knows how bad I wanted it and says I'm getting it no matter what. Our builder is so understanding, and he needs the work just as much as we do. So, he suggested my dad do the trim work, painting, etc. We'll see what happens. There's always the lottery, right?...See Morestorms sailing by...what does it take?
Comments (13)Our storms usually go to the south or north of us and we only get the edge. Sometimes I'm glad of that as we are in a good lightning area, always getting a few very close ones. Actually had one hit the back pergola (steel frame but luckily not attached to the house) nearly 2 years ago during that week of really hot weather and bad storms that hit Brissy. Gave us all a fright, all 4 kids slept on mattresses on lounge room floor the rest of the night while I had to sit up with them :( Had a few mls last night though not sure how much as someone bumped the raingauge and it was leaning over. Only 2mls in gauge but my guess is twice that. Had rumbles of thunder and small storms go past to the south all afternoon until about 8.15 when there was half hour of light rain. Better than nothing - trying to be optimistic here :) Hoping for lots more rain (without too much lightning) for everyone, at least those that need it....See MoreWhat does it take to grow GOOD tomatoes ?
Comments (3)I live near boston. I'm not an expert tomato grower and I don't have a quick fix, but I thought I'd write down my observations from this year for comparison. This year I planted tomatoes in the ground and in 10 gal pots. I planted cherry and slicing tomatoes. Tomatoes were started indoors from commercial seed. The pots were filled with high quality loose compost. I am guessing that because of loose soil and warmer soil than ground and more sheltered conditions from wind, the potted toms developed more quickly than tomato plants in the ground. Potted tomatoes are bigger. This year I must have watered tomatoes in the ground only 4 times lightly in the long bouts between rain, and leaves did not yellow. I expect to water more often In july and august maybe. Nice sheets of tropical rain last night though. I've watered the pots often as the soil would dry up quickly, even though I know the general warning of not watering too often. I also did get yellow leaves in potted plants. Thanks to a couple of posts here I looked more closely at the soil humidity. What I thought was a good watering was too fast and did not really drench soil well enough. I am now at the conclusion that I should water less often and more thoroughly... a slow long watering that would cover more soil area and would also as a result be less frequent. Or water from beneath. But I have not put this into a practice long enough to see the effects. I noticed this year how much of a difference nutrients make. Though i added compost and fertilizer in the fall and spring, my grounded tomatoes were uniformly paler than potted toms in end of June. After adding a few inches of high quality compost, the grounded toms a week later looked considerably more healthy. I hope this helps. Even though the experts here keep repeating themselves, it's good to experience their advice, to take notice and be proactive with tweaking growing conditions. I don't how bad your yellow leaves are but for me it doesn't seem to slow down the tomato plants too much to call it quits....See Morelaura1202
