Re-introducing myself

Hello all,

I am a long, long, long time lurker, and I guess if I am going to post, I should let you know who I am! My name is Jen, I live in a rural area in the Intermountain West, and I am a supervisor for a state human services agency. I have a 3 1/2 year old son, and a hectic life. But I always try to find time for working on my house.

About 10 years ago, my DH and I bought an old bungalow/farmhouse with a big piece of property, and we completely remodeled. The house was built in the 20's but had been "updated" with fake paneling, green shag carpeting, thick swirly textured drywall, etc. It looks like a completely different house now. It is a modest house and I am always changing things, redecorating, and dreaming about further remodeling or adding on. Or moving :) My DH will never move because of the acreage and wildlife.

Anyway, I posted quite a bit when we were remodeling and making millions of choices. I received such good advice and support. I particularly remember Les helping me through paint choices.

I MUST learn how to post pictures. Posts are just not the same without pics. I will try to figure it out! I so enjoy reading here.

You definitely need to learn how to post, so we can see your remodel! The best way is to open a free account on Photobucket. Upload your pictures there and then copy the html code (you'll see it underneath your uploaded picture) and paste it here.

Hi Tisha! Most of the oldies moved on when GW changed their policies about posting pictures. If any of you want to know where the "other" forum is send me an email through my GW profile. I don't want to get banned for advertising. I must warn you, the HP forum isn't as busy as this one, but we all do post a lot on the C&S forum there. Maybe with some more oldies from GW there it would pick up, hint, hint, :) :) It seems that there are less beginner questions, and very few arguements about care, which is always nice. on a side note I am checking in from San Diego, where I got to meet Cena for the first time yesterday at the SDES pre-show sale and the SDCSS meeting right next door :)

Lucky you, the house is a neutral and you can choose what you like! For the front, are you thinking low like juniper or do you want more color? Are there already foundation plantings or are you starting from scratch? We got boxwood and dwarf yaupon with our older home and trimmed and kept them for year round green. I'm north of you but Jewels of Opar, the lime colored one, really brightens my shady area and doesn't look gaudy. Mine blooms right up to first freeze. My design style is far from formal, I don't know what to suggest :-)

The first one is AWESOME, especially if you slide the decor of the dining room towards Craftsman ... the other two not so much. The "pool table light" looks more 1980s than 1920s, and the other one not nearly farmhouse enough. I had a 1920s bungalow with mostly original lighting, and the kitchen had what we now call "Schoolhouse" lighting. the bedrooms had center fixtures with 3 small pendant lights from it. I'm mostly a lurker, too. Mostly because I'm still learning and don't have much to contribute. Welcome!! I hope to see some pictures of your wonderful home soon.

Hi! And welcome!

Yes -- just open a free account on Photobucket (there are other sites but I use this one ....)

Then uplocad your photos to your album -- when you move your cursor over the photo -- four codes will appear under it. Simply click on the HTML one -- and it automatically copies -- then go back to your message here on GW -- and paste it into the body of your message!

((thank the stars for the person who figured out the auto-copy feature -- SO much easier!!))
