The only thing you could possibly missing is filling every moment of your day with worthless, inane, social networking with people you don't really care about in the least.

I am not crazy at all with Twitter. It took awhile for me to get used to Facebook and I like Myspace a lot better.

Twitter is not just about "status updates"....it's about sharing interesting links, photos, information, etc. It's about networking, asking questions, getting answers, etc.

But don't listen to me, listen to "Joanie", she seems to know what it's all about. Hey "Joanie", are you even on Twitter?

Oh, and you don't have to make your updates public, you can limit them to just the people who are following you.

I am on Facebook as well, but I can see why people would just be on Twitter and not Facebook. Lately I have had to block so many crap applications on facebook, do people use it for anything more than doing stupid quizzes? They drive me nuts.

One way to get rid of those things on your Home Page on Facebook is not go to your home page. I have my own Profile bookmarked and only look at the Home Page when I have nothing better to do.

I am curious about Twitter but haven't been there yet but I am sure I will join.

I'm sorry, it was late, I was tired. I apologize to Joanie.

I just get tired of people bashing things they know nothing about. A lot of people said the same things about Facebook when it opened, and now they are all on Facebook!

I like Twitter. I've found a lot of great photographers and sites where I can get inspiration for my photography. I have won a piece of Newfoundland Art. I get to share my photography with others who are Newfoundland photographers....we can compare shooting locations, etc.

I didn't know Twitter could do all that. I was going to look it up to see what it could do, but I wondered if you had to join to find it all out. And I don't want to just join something without knowing more about it. Thanks for answering my question, Casey.

If you don't use any of these services I'm sure they can be confusing. In the 50's my parents didn't understand why I walked around with a 'transistor radio' held up to my ear!

Twitter is often used by groups of friends to keep track of what they are currently doing. A message like "Headed to coffee shop on main street" is an invitation to your friends to join you there. In my weight watchers meetings a group has gotten together to exercise and walk together. "Walking tomorrow morning from Blanchard Park parking lot - 7am" or "at the court, anyone want to play tennis?".
Another friend is part of a birdwatch group and left work early on Friday because she received "SwallowTail Kite by Waterford Lakes!".

Casey is obviously using it in other ways as well, to connect with other photographers. I hadn't thought of it as a tool for that.

For job hunters, there's another great site called Linked In. If you haven't checked that out you should! Especially for upper level jobs companies are checking out references at LinkedIn.com.

I sounded kind of snotty anyway, didn't I? :-D

Actually, I have 2 Twitter accounts - one personal (recent) and one business (2 years old).
Now that Twitter has finally taken off, I'll be using the business account in the ways you describe - I think it will be great for tweeting specials, new items and the like.
The personal one I use to follow mostly and I have to admit, most of what I read is BORING but, again, that's jmo.
I don't check in every day and I haven't updated at all.

I dislike the networking aspects of Facebook, My Space and Twitter. I correspond with several people via e-mail and post on a few forums but for cryin' out loud don't see the need to display every emotion and piece of information I have!

Someone on the radio commented on how one of their on-line friends eluded to an emotion (upset or angry) on their facebook page. When the radio person e-mailed them to ask them why they were upset or angry the original poster was indignent as to why they were even asking.

I guess you get a "condensed" form of communication with Twitter, My Space, Facebook. Just as a greeting card is not as personal as a handwritten note. It's a bunch of hooey and I, for one, have no intention of participating.

Kate, I love LinkedIn. I have reconnected with so many old colleagues. Great fun, and a great networking tool.

Have looked at Twitter a couple of times but can't see a personal use yet for me, although it's getting alot of buzz.

Well, I have no experience with Twitter, but I like Facebook. Some people put all kinds of info in their status, and some people are more discerning. Nobody forces you to put info on there that you're not comfortable with. I keep in better touch with some of my nieces, nephews and more distant relatives than before- and I get a better sense of their day to day life than with email. I find it to be very fun.

I love facebook.. i keep in touch with friends i otherwise would not be..it is just so easy... i have not quite figured out twitter yet but plan to at some point..Facebook could possibly have recently saved a life i am still so sad...a kid in my community recently took his own life and when i went to his facebook page out of curiosity, i was shocked to see the comments he had been making... " i am so sick of it all....i am ready to give up on life.. i am so sick of the way things are going..gotta get outa here.. someone text me... i want to have a conversation... the comments go on..the kid was screaming for help and for some sad reason no one caught on..or if they did they were not able to help him...
