This is called a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree

After our helicopter ride

Me keeping an eye on a crab that was behind me.. lol

We hiked 2 miles into the woods and through a bamboo forest to see this... SOOO WORTH IT!!

This is right before our cruise we went on. We saw whales AND two baby dolphins!

Any idea what plant this large leaf comes from? From Hawaii??

Thanks bboy (sorry but for some reason I didn't get the response via my email and just found your data). I looked this up but the missing section (and somewhat heart shape rather than just round) makes me think it's something else. I keep looking at water lily leaves to no avail. Someone gave me this thing so I've been curious ever since. Any other ideas? Even other categories to look under? I've googled images for "large tropical leaf" and "water lily leaf," "lotus leaf" etc...

hi Kevin, I love your photos...I visited Punch Bowl Crater when I visited Oahu. What a beautiful place to be. When I was landing in Honalulu, I noticed this unique crater looking from ny window...I asked questions and found my way up there with my family. They buried alot of the unknown soliders from Pearl Harbor there..as well as named soliders whose families could not afford to send them home for a proper burial..they did a great job in keeping this a "special" place for remmemberance...Since we just passed Dec 7th...thank you for posting this special meaningful post reminding me of all the beauty on the island as well as all who have fallen for us as well...May they all have peace in Punch Bowl...a crater of beauty!!! Thank you for that...I did have to tell my passengers on that aDec 7th day to stop and reflect this special day...one day that will last in our history...I couldn't say anymore because aI could get in trouble...but I had to say something...they deserve that..... Thank you Kevin for the great post ...and may all who perished on that particular day...God bless you!!!! dECEMBER 7TH A DATE THAT WILL LAST IN IMFAMY!!! tAKE CARE EVERYONE... lAURA IN vb

The photo of you at the rainbow eucalyptus tree, and the one of the two of you before the whale watching cruise were taken on Maui. The photos of you on the beach and you watching the crab could have been taken on any of the islands, and the photo after the helicopter ride looks a lot like the Kahului, Maui, airport. But that waterfall looks an awful lot like the Akaka Falls, which is on the "Big Island." If it *is* the Akaka Falls, I totally agree - that 440 foot drop is amazing!

Were you just there in March? That's one of our favorite times to go -- lots of new flowers in bloom with the start of Spring, and plenty of whales to be seen!

We flew into Maui and stayed on that island the whole time. We were there from 3-27 thru 4-1.

Lindsey, have you went on the road to Hana? I think that was my favorite part of the whole trip. Soooo beautiful!! Those waterfalls were at a place after Hana. They start with a "w"... I was not good at the names of places the whole time we were there.. and I kept practicing too.. lol

Nicki,

Yes, we've driven the road to Hana, and we've also driven the "back way" back again -- the road that the car rental companies tell you not to take. :-) It's not paved the entire way, but it's not a bad road at all, and the scenery is awesome. We've also driven all the way around the West Maui side (again - the car rental companies tell ya not to go that way).

The Hawaiian language takes a bit of getting used to. The thing to remember is that there are only eight letters in the Hawaiian alphabet, and when you see a word, any word, you pronounce every letter. So, for example the street name "Honoapiilani" is pronounced

ho no ah pee ee lahn ee
