Here's a few pics of plumeria still in bloom in Koko crater and Punchbowl crater, taken the last few days in November.

Thanks for sharing these great pictures! I can't wait (planning my Hawaii trip for May 2011). I will surely visit that place; heard a lot about it.

Thanks a lot everyone for all the compliments! Laura, I only planted one plumeria in the ground and that was my plumeria pudica. Since it was dieing and had on leaves on it (which is unusual for a pudica because its an evergreen species), I planted it in the ground without a pot. My plan is to dig it up with a good shovel in the fall which is a little more work, but probably more worth it since the roots have more room to grow. Plumerias dont really mind getting there roots cut back a little so I figured it was worth just sticking it in the ground. My largest plumeria has been potted up and next year I will probably sink a pot in the ground like I planned to this year. Im looking forward to seeing some pics of your yard. Greg, I actually saw a tent at a mall in staten island with plants in it so I looked and saw an orleander. I really love orleanders (especially the white ones), and have never seen any for sale anywhere nearby me so when I saw those I had to get some. I dont think its there permenantly so they probably go there once a year in the spring. It was (I think) about 15 dollars for each which wasnt too bad of a price at all. I know they grow quick so Im sure once I pot them up they will really begin to grow. One also has aphids so Im going to have to treat it. Ive tried coffee grinds (since I hear that works) and it might have slowed the aphids down, but they are far from gone. The ladybugs do help though! Heres a pic of the pygmy palm again but now with the pool in the background. Thanks again for looking!

I bought from Mr Nishikata at the Aloha swap meet and his prices are very low (on average $5 a cutting, and they are larger than what you get pre-packaged at the Dole Plantation, which are $15 for a 12" cutting on average). However he may not know all the names of his cuttings. I just want to mention something to you: It sounds like an awful lot of cuttings you're planning to bring back. If you like some of the more common varieties (like Candy Stripe, Smith's Candy Apple, Celadine etc...) I just recently discovered that you can get really good deals right here in southern Calif! This weekend I just attended the SCPS meeting in Huntington Beach, and got a large 2 feet long with 3 tips Candy Stripe cutting for $10. Good luck plumeria hunting!

Hi Laura, sorry I missed your post, you posted just 1 minute before I made my post haha! The beaches in bermuda were definitely the nicest I have ever seen. There were plenty of large rocks around the beaches, but the sand itself was really soft and fine. The beaches around my area dont compare at all! Definitely one of my favorite vacations even though I was only there for 5 days. My plumerias are doing really well. The cuttings you sent me are growing really well, the Scott Pratt is doing especially well, it put out a ton of growth this summer. The California sunset is doing well too, but I think I will give it more sun so it grows a little faster! My largest plumeria is approaching 13 feet tall (pot included) and is now the tallest tropical plant in my yard (even larger than the Adondila I bought!)so it's going to be a real challenge finding a place for that one inside. It has 3 inflos on it now but I can only take pictures of the blooms from my upstairs window! It's about a week or 2 away from blooming. Looks like it's going to have to get cut back next spring as much as I hate having to do that to my plumerias! I havent posted too many pics of my plumerias this year because they all bloomed so well last year that this year there have been barely any blooms at all. My plumeria Divine put out 2 flowers from the inflo that it made indoors and it is just now starting to make another inflo. My Pretty Princess has always been a late one to bloom and it's inflo is still a good month away from blooming. I hope it blooms before it's too late! Hopefully it will be a warm fall and nmaybe next summer the plumerias will all have enough growth to bloom like crazy again. I hope your plumerias and tropicals are all doing well! -Alex

Congartulations. Its a great feeling to get one of these plants to bloom especially for the first time. They come in so many colors and sizes its hard not to be addicted to growing them. Good luck and enjoy it! My first pluemria to bloom bloomed around late august or early september and its indoors now and still blooming, so if your lucky you might have some buds still opening in time for the holidays.

Love those pictures! They make me wish for summer to return even more. I know I shouldn't complain, but the nights have been chilly, and my plumeria leaves are turning yellow.
Was there by any chance a name tag on the red plumeria (second picture from the bottom)? I'm still trying to decide which red one to add next year.

kms2, I actually ate my Thanksgiving dinner at the Seattle airport, waiting for my flight to Honolulu. It was a large tasty bowl of Japanese udon soup. Shave Ice? You bet! On north shore Oahu. Very tasty. sunseeker53, May should be perfect for viewing plumeria in Koko Crater. In November most of the trees were either dormant or going into dormancy, but in May they should be in full bloom! All of the pics are from Koko Crater but the red one which was taken in Punch Bowl. There were tags on the ones in Koko, but not on the red ones in Punch Bowl. I wonder if they are Hilo Beauty, since they are so dark. Some one else would know better than I.

hi Kevin,

I love your photos...I visited Punch Bowl Crater when I visited Oahu. What a beautiful place to be. When I was landing in Honalulu, I noticed this unique crater looking from ny window...I asked questions and found my way up there with my family. They buried alot of the unknown soliders from Pearl Harbor there..as well as named soliders whose families could not afford to send them home for a proper burial..they did a great job in keeping this a "special" place for remmemberance...Since we just passed Dec 7th...thank you for posting this special meaningful post reminding me of all the beauty on the island as well as all who have fallen for us as well...May they all have peace in Punch Bowl...a crater of beauty!!!

Thank you for that...I did have to tell my passengers on that aDec 7th day to stop and reflect this special day...one day that will last in our history...I couldn't say anymore because aI could get in trouble...but I had to say something...they deserve that.....

Thanks Laura. Yes, Punch Bowl Crater was a very peaceful, serene and sacred place, quite different than the liveliness of Honolulu and Waikiki. It was quite nice to see the two rows of dark red flowering plumeria on both sides of the entrance, as well as a variety of colors located around the cemetery. I was surprised how large some of the plumeria plants were, truly tree size. They must have been planted long ago. Punch Bowl is a fitting place to memorialize those who died in the war, since it is such a secluded spot. Thanks!

Hello Everyone...
Just reread my post from yesterday...wow!!! LOL sorry for all the typos...I had been flying all weekend and I can tell that I was very tired when I wrote that post...Yikes!!
I really can spell..LOL...but with this weather in the northeast, my job has really made me tired as you can probably tell...sorry!!!

Kevin, Again many thanks for the great pics from Punch Bowl Crater...I think that I took the best Pic from there of Diamond Head...what a beautiful place...thanks for the great pictures!!!

I'll try to post more pics. The above pics are just a few I took with my cheap camera. My daughter went with, and had a nice high-pixel Nikon camera, and she took hundreds of pictures. Thank goodness for pictures. They help you make it through the bleak, winter months.
