is it my mouse?

Is there a way to change settings on my mouse? For some reason when i use the wheel on my mouse, or even use the arrows on the sides of a page, the screen or page scrolls in "waves" dont know how else to explain it, but whenever i used to do it, it went smoothly.....now it seems as if it is going in slow motion, and now it seems as if it waves as i scroll...can it be fixed?

Can anyone help me with this and am i making it clear as to what is going on?

It's probably not this, but it wouldn't hurt to scan with you anti virus and spyware software. The last time I had trouble with my mouse I had a virus. Got rid of the virus and my mouse was fine.

Decided to look it up afterall in case it's not the problem and someone else can help.

At the top of your internet page, choose Tools, Internet Options and select the Advanced tab.

At the bottom of the Browsing section you'll see an option for Smooth Scrolling. There should be a check in the box.

Been there, done that with both the wayward mouse that drove my cursor nuts, and I had to chase it all over the place and that prompted the bilingual curses. A funny story, a friend told about when she was in a computer class, and a classmate yelled out that she had lost her cursor. Everyone got down on the floor to search for her cursor. The teacher walked in and asked what they were doing. The teacher got the point and helped find the cursor. I bet there are tons of people that can identify with the situation, including me. Glad all is working well.

Thanks to each of you for responding! I had a computer tech come to my house & he said that the new mouse I bought did need some software installation (altho the box said it did not). He did that for me & I was right back in business. He also went through my installations & deleted some old & unnecessary ones & my computer is faster now. $37.50 & worth every penny to me! Thnx again...

So your wheel thing won't roll the page up and down? You might try asking at the link below. There might be a scroll setting or something that is 'off'. It will help to mention your Operating System, and maybe what browser you use. Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Computer Help Forum

thanks....i did a scan..no virus......and my smooth scroll was already checked, but i unchecked it, and rechecked it and hit apply, but it is still doing the same thing

Have you rebooted your computer? You'd be amazed at the number of things a reboot can fix.

Is it only happening in Internet Explorer?

It could be your video card settings or drivers. Likewise with your mouse.

Have you changed your PCs background picture lately? Changed mouse pads? Does it happen when you use the arrow buttons on the keyboard? Are all your updates installed? Rebooted? Did a virus/spyware check?

Look for any bmp files in C:\WINDOWS\Web\.

Try deleting your saved passwords - Tools, Internet Options, Delete, Delete Passwords.

As a last resort you can try doing a System Restore back to a point when it wasn't happening.

Did you go to the control panel and look up your mouse? At the start button look up the side for control panel..open and look for your mouse icon...open it and see the many options available for you ie. speed, lenght of scroll etc. At the end there is a troubleshooter for your mouse and driver. Hopefully this might do the trick...if you have had the mouse for quite a while it might be just as easy to toss it and go to even walmart and get a new one, as they have come down so much in price. Many different shapes and sizes to fit your needs too, rather than the standard old mouse.

Also, the roller ball & the reverse side of the mouse get dirty. Take the ball out & wash it with dish soap & dry it. Wash the bottom of the mouse too.
