Lost My Mouse Click Sounds. Help Please!

Just the other day I lost my mouse click sounds. Now some work, like when I open files on my desktop or when Minimize or maximize my main window.

The sounds I'm missing are when I click on links within the window... no sounds anymore. I checked my speaker volumes, etc. I even went into my control panel and uninstalled the mouse, then reinstalled it.

It happened after I tried running my cd/dvd on my 'puter. I couldn't get either to work... the cd part anyway. I closed out the programs, then went back to regular operation. After that, I started to realize whenever I went to click links within an active window, I would get silence. The links would work, but without sound.

Does anyone here have a fix so I can get my link sounds back?

Try control panel 'Sounds' click the Sounds tab, scroll down to internet explorer & click the 'Start Navigation'

Hello there mikie,

Well I got here and saw before I opened the thread and only saw one reply. I thought, "This can't be good". LOL!

I did happen to find my way there to the area you spoke of. I was going to show you a screenshot of my problem. Once I got there, I chose all kinds of sounds to try and get one that will work, but could not. Right before I gave up, I saw a sound option that said "Windows XP Start". That is the same sound I had before! GREAT!

Thanks for helping me mikie. I appreciate it greatly. You're a big help to this community.

Now my remaining question is how did the changes take place? I never went there and made any changes. Hmm?

I've never used Vista. Maybe someone else who knows will answer. Until than see if Vista has the same tools as Windows XP. 1. Start - my computer - Right click Local Disks C - Properties - Tools Tab - Error Checking Section - Check Now - Check mark both boxes - Click Start. This will start when you Restart your computer. It take about 35 minute on mine. 5 parts and the last 2 takes the longest. 2.The second thing to try is - Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK Don't forget the space between c and / You need the Recovery CD that came with your Computer if it finds anything wrong. Don't insert unless asked for. Takes about 35 minutes.

Others may have better suggestions. To update your sound. Windows XP Start - control panel - open system icon - Hardware Tab - Device manager - Click the plus sign for sound and video. Right click your sound (whatever your using) - properties - update drivers - and follow the directions. You will need the CD that came with your computer. See if your sound has been stopped in Services Under Windows Audio. Start - Control Panel - Open Administrative Tools - Click Services and Scrowl down the list to Windows Audio to see if it says - Started. If stopped Left click Windows Audio and click restart. - Or Right click Windows Audio - left click Properties - Left click Start. While in Services check to see if Plug and Play is Started.

It's probably the metal expanding and nothing to worry about much but there's a chance that some of the sounds are from falling creosote particles from the lower flue temperature. By Heritage, I am assuming you mean a Hearthstone Heritage, nice stove, but 325 is pretty low for your flue temperature if you're using a magnetic type thermometer. I used to have a Hearthstone Phoenix and cruising temperature on that was between 400 and 500 for most of the burn. How far up the pipe is your thermometer from the stove flue collar? It might read lower if more than 2 feet above.

Take a good look at duluthinbloomz helpful entry. This is a good example why I ask questions like this here rather than the Computer Forum. There I would have likely had someone say "check your volume control!" She -- explained exactly where to find the volume control and how to handle it ---- That is my kind of language! I love asking help from people who speak the same language and at the same speed! LOL BTW -- If help didn't come here, I would have had to go to the Computer Help Forum -- but always here first!
