I wonder how comfortable they would be for a long dining experience? They look nice but not as nice as I think your dining room, which is exquisite, deserves! Good luck but I think this did happen for a reason!

was the price really all that great? I see this type of thing under some combination of the words "Hollywood regency", "Chippendale", "bamboo" on ebay and elsewhere. Shipping by greyhound can be very affordable.

Actually, to me, they look a lot like the chairs you get when you go to a rental place...I've seen similar chairs too many times set up at catering joints, so I think you can do better. If it wasn't meant to be, it's for a reason....

I actually don't like them. Chinese chippendales should have an interwoven pattern. These don't.

Most of the ones that are online have a different, more interesting. pattern on the back. The store ones don't.

I empatize I,m still stinging over a horse I missed out on almost thirty years ago. The shoer bought her the morning I was supposed to go see her. At least they called and saved me a four hour drive.

Stinks. That's the problem with the Restoration Hardware Outlet in Limerick, too. You can call and find out what they have in stock, but they won't put it on hold. You can come into the store and find what you want but they won't put it on hold and let you walk around the mall. They won't even let you pay for it and pick it up later. It's remarkable. I went there twice to get items that were no longer available by the time I got there, and it's infuriating.

I do like them, and I hope Ms. Virginia doesn't show up and they will be yours.

But if not, then you will at least have the consolation prize of the thrill of the hunt, ongoing!

That's just not right! Unless those people had paid for them in advance, no way should they be holding them when you're standing there with money. Did you offer a little more to see if they'd bite?

I was mostly disappointed in the fact that they were holding them until the end of the NEXT business day. Really. Who does that? I might understand the same business day.

I really didn't want to make a stink, they didn't seem to think it was a bad thing what they did and I knew there was no way to reason with them. Plus, since I really am a nice person I didn't want to penalize Brenda from VA. She didn't leave a phone number (not part of the hold process) and I couldn't imagine her driving all the way to find out that they were sold.

My fault. My gut told me to call them back and say, "do I need to ask you to hold them for me". But another voice told me not to worry because they had been there for so long (and were due for their monthy drop in price next week). I thought they'd be safe for 40 minutes.

Oh well.

And thanks Kevin. Did I mention that they were under $300 for the entire set of 8 chairs? I need bargain prices in order to justify ditching perfectly good chairs for another set. But thanks for looking. :)

Sort of leaning towards a wowzer-green. The green looks so cool with the dark walls. Although, I would have looked at them in the white they currently are first. That might have been perfect too.

And I do hold all of the GW Craigslist Lucky Peeps responsible, by the way. Every time I see a successful CL Find story, I instantly open up CL and start looking. I've found some amazing stuff lately and this was such a great find (since it was not listed, but just in the picture for something else). Ok, just kidding--only holding myself responsible for not adding "Hold them" to my "I'm on my way" comment.

If there was no commitment (or even a phone no) on Brenda's part, I'd say the chances are good that she won't drive up to PA. It's at least a 2 1/2 hour drive one-way.
Just make sure to call the store again as close to/past the deadline as possible.

I'm sorry to read about this. I too am on the hunt for dining chairs that fit my own style and don't cost an arm and a leg. (So far I've had zero luck.) Maybe something even better will come along. While this particular style of chair (from your inspirations) really isn't a style I like anyway, I really don't like the lines of these particular chairs. I think with a little more time you're going to find something even better.

Sorry to hear this-- and you are much more forgiving than I am. Telling the shop owner that you are "on your way" constitutes a hold in my book. It also means, I'd never shop there again.

That's soooo aggravating! From someone who craigslists quite a bit, I've had a few disappointments myself. I got lucky yesterday, though. I'd been spying a leather recliner on CL for $600. I got her down to $450, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I found one just like it yesterday (same brand, style, but a darker brown) for $125. In your case, I feel like she should've told the other lady that she had someone coming, and she'd let her know if YOU didn't take them. What a bummer!

I agree -- they should have told Brenda someone was coming and called her if they weren't taken. I think an "I'm on my way" should have at least held them for an hour or two, even if they were unsure that you would show up or want them -- you cared enough to call about them and say you were coming.

BUT, I still look at all those other chairs and say the ones Brenda got were not as nice. The box within a frame of boxes is just not as artistic and appealing as the design of all the others.

I've had similar things happen to me. It sucks, there's no other way to put it. BUT I generally find that for me, the hunt is half the fun and so I hunt again and almost always find something I like as well, sometimes better.

Try to not think about it and just remember, it's CL and the general rules of common sense often don't apply. :/

Ah yes CL can be a bit of an emotional roller coaster for buyers and sellers. This photo was on CL, but it was a Consignment shop that just happened to be posting some of their inventory on CL to drum up business.

It's interesting that you noted they were real bamboo (or rattan?). Most are faux, meaning wood, usually, or sometimes resin. If real is key they might be a bit harder to find. I would think one would want faux, but am I wrong?

But of course Brenda-from-VA took them. After Miss Shop-keeper told her someone else was looking at them, what else was she going to do after driving 3 hours for them? Kates right, Brenda won't know what to do with them. Glad you're over it Bee, and yes, something better will come your way!

I agree with everyone who says that you will eventually find something better - more graceful, and more comfortable.

If this were Brenda's fault, I'd apologize for bad manners from anyone from Virginia! But she was blameless, so please don't come down here and TP the Winchester courthouse ... :>)

These aren't quite the bargain the CL ones were, but at 2/$199, and he has a total of 7, maybe you could work out a better deal. They're in Ft Meyers, FL, and could be shipped Greyhound.

My two cents.... First, the shop stinks for not giving them to you when you called first and drove all that way and was there a day before the VA person. That is ridiculous!

I agree, the chairs Abi posted are great. The scale and proportion seem much better than the ones that got away. Keep looking--something good will turn up. I got curious about the availability of this style chair since the post, so started looking around--there seem to be lots of them around. Prices are all over the place, but I'm sure with patience you'll score!

Meh. The lattice is wrong, pedestrian compared to the inspiration pics. Ms VA did you a favor because I know you'll find better. How annoying though that you drove all the way there for nothing. Lesson learned: Next time make a stink!
