A local Mom/Pop grocery store had a great sale this week.... Spare Ribs for $1.59 #, Chicken Wings, for $1.69#,and Russett Taters were 20# for $3.99 and they are nice too... so Larry sent me off with a fist full of dollars to purchased some... I got 15# of wings, 40# of ribs and 60# of taters....They had a nice sale on T-bone steak, but we have several ribeye steaks already in the freezer..so didn't get any of those...

Love those kinds of sales....

All some of my favorite things that was a good sale. Sounds like you can have a big old party.

Wow, Carolyn. Those are great prices. Don't blame you for stocking up if you have a big freezer. Who knows what the prices will be a month from now. Do you have a Food Saver? If not, I highly recommend them. They suck the air out of the bags and seal them and meat lasts at least a year, although they say 6 months. It thaws out like you just bought it.

Bet you enjoyed those ribs last night--and I, unfortunately, am still droolin' and dreamin'.

Anna C : Here is a recipe that you can use for Spare Ribs or Chicken Wings. You don't have to boil the wings. Just use the Sauce and cook like you do your's. LouÂs , Broiled Spare Ribs and Finger Licking Good , Sauce I use Country Style or Sizzlers , cut a little thicker than Â½ inch For about 3 Â½ lb. of meat. Put a pot of water to boil, on the range top, with just enough water To cover the Ribs. Add: 1/3 teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning , Garlic Powder and Onion Powder. An Italian pinch of Ground Cloves , Basil and Oregano 1/4 Teaspoon of Black Pepper 2 Bay leaves Simmer for about 25 minutes If IÂm going to make Spaghetti Sauce later, IÂll save this stock to thin the Tomatoes and Puree SAUCE: Meanwhile, put in a small bowl : 1/2 cup of Bullseye or Krafts Original Barbecue Sauce 1/2 cup of Ketsup 1/2 teaspoon of Mustard Â¼ teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning 1/3 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder & Onion Powder A pinch of Cloves , Basil and Oregano Black Pepper - to taste. 2 tablespoons of Brown Sugar and Maple or Pancake Syrup 2 Heaping tablespoons of Grape Jelly and Strawberry Jam Smooth out the Jelly and Jam with a fork and mix well. This may sound like overpowering sweetness but it is not. I use a 9x 13 SS pan and lay some Sauce on the bottom. Then I lay in the simmered Spare Ribs and spoon the Sauce on them. If there is some sauce left over , save it for basting when the ribs are almost done. I cook them in an electric range Broiler, set on Low, Placed on a shelf about 8 inches below the burner. They will cook in about 25 minutes. Test after 20 minutes Ummmmmmmeemm Gooooooooood !!!!!!!!

Has anyone cooked prime rib using Auto Roast in their Miele oven?

gma_j, I see now you were referring to setting the probe temperature. I haven't used my Miele probe; I use the speed oven for smaller things, where a probe is less useful. But it really does snap in place with a loud click; so if yours didn't, that could be the problem. Larger things generally go into my E'lux oven; that probe works fine. The speed oven pre-heats quickly, so if something fits its faster to cook it there. Its useful for re-heating (use MasterChef, if you know the weight), as well as stuff like baked potatoes (in combination mode), and for roasting, braising, or convection baking small portions. I've rarely used defrost, or broil (except to finish browning something like ribs). The Miele's manuals leave much to be desired. While we wait for mojavean or someone smart to write a decent Miele speed oven cookbook, a variety of recipes on the Miele site can get you started on some dishes (see link). patty, the only thing my Sheltie, Cooper, will eat at McDonald's is the chicken sandwich off the dollar menu, although I do plead guilty to drinking their coffee occasionally. One day I'd stopped at McD's and gotten a sandwich for Cooper and my daughter, Ashley, laughed. She said "what a ringing endorsement for McDonald's. You won't eat their food, but you do feed the dog there". LOL I read the McRib article, BTW. It's made of bleached stomach, tripe and heart. Yup, it's offal. Or is that awful? LOL And that'll teach me. I don't eat fast food as a general rule, if we go through a drive through my normal response is "I'm not hungry, thank you". However, a couple of times a year I'll go to my local A&W and get a chili cheese dog and a root beer. They still have car hops and the root beer comes in those frosty mugs. I don't want to know what's in those hot dogs, or in the chili, or what unholy ingredient makes the cheese stay liquid. Annie

We had Thanksgiving dinner tonight! Over at the clubhouse of our lake association. Yummy! Only $9.99 per person, buffet with all the trimmings. Will have to do that again. I was planning on making ribs and potato salad tonight, but we can have that tomorrow night. Kathy G in MI

The ribs were packed 3 slabs to a package... Pressure sealed.. so they will keep well in the freezer for a few months. Larry takes out a package of 3 slabs and rubs them with his own rub recipe and then cooks them in the smoker.. and ohhhhhhhh ... they are sooooooooooo good... No need for sauce at all... They come out tender, just on the verge of falling off the bone and not dry at all...moist and oh so good..... I have eaten ribs all over the place, but I like Larry's best...When he cooks them, we either:

a: have folks over for a cookout
or
b: cut them up and freeze them in the food saver bags all cooked and ready to reheat... Actually we have two food saver machines... Larry brought his when he moved here...
We have two large upright freezers.. one for mostly veggies, and flour and grain products which I buy in bulk for bread baking... The other we put meat and fish in...

I love shopping in some of these small Mom / Pop grocery stores...they have some awesome sales on local produce and meats ... They have good sales on the best ice cream ever.. (can't remember the brand), but it goes for 2 half gallon (real half gallon boxes) for $4.00. The vanilla is my favorite.. it is soooooo creamy... and the chocolate is so fresh tasting... yummmm

There are benefits to living out here in the sticks.. =0)
