OMG the McRib is back!

I'm going to get one.

It's like KFC Original Recipe fried chicken. Ungodly bad but so so good. At least the first few are, after that things go downhill.

You knew the McRib is not any sort of "rib" but you may not know how much ingenuity went into it's invention. And what a name the inventor has!

I knew some of the comments, but not all. Kind of interesting. I never found an interest in it. I might have tried it one time but I'm not a fanatic even though I like sausage sandwiches. I'd take a few sausage mcmuffins (hold the plastic "cheese") and save the difference in cost. They're nuts.

I have to say I have not ate a Mc Rib and plan to never eat at that Mc place again. They offered buy one get one for a penny on their big Mc I am sorry to say I was suckered in. I had my Shih Tzu Zada with me she would not even eat it good thing we got fries. If the dog won't eat it it must not be real food sure did not taste like it. Patty

Okay I stepped on the scales today - too chicken last week - I am up 4 pounds but I know why. It has been a phase of just wanting to eat. So I did. Now I stepped on the scales, got things out of my system (I do not blame my monthly cycles). Sometimes I just want to eat. Some days I just want cookies and coffee. It reminded me of xmas - when I decided to begin this journey once again. I ate everything until I was sick of it. Then I resolved myself to get at it again. I think the past THREE weeks have been the same all over - the difference is - I am still here posting. We are human. Some folk zoom through this and get to goal. I know myself too well. The past 3 weeks were the same point I got to last time and gave up, regained all my lost weight and gave up hope. This time I saw it as a period of letting go. I have learned now that this will be a life long journey and the best part of all is having all of my friends here to share life with. Thank you for your motivation, your down moments, your up moments. Thank you for continuing to remind me to stick with it, not give up on myself. Posting is purifying. Posting lets me be honest with myself. If I posted that my weight was the same - it would be false. If I posted that it was my monthly cycle then it would be me giving up and not believing that I am responsible for what I eat, how, when and why. I think being honest with myself keeps me going and all of you doing the same helps all of us remember we are embarking on a journey to better health, happiness. We just keep taking it one day at a time, one step. No matter what, I have resolved this year to get through these moments and keep coming back, not giving up. It will just take a little longer to reach goal but then again if it takes 6 months, a year, two years so what. It took TEN YEARS to pack it all on. It ain't coming off overnight! So here I am. The whole thing with the McRib is it's another play on the "parts is parts" process, ala McNugget. I think I've had one in my life. It was hard to fork out over $3 for the tidbit and I was totally unimpressed, especially for the money. In fairness, it was not the match of "5 Disappointments" level and it satisfied a decades-long curiosity. I like sausage sandwiches and make them often. I even like the Sausage McMuffins, especially sans the plastic "cheese". Compared to usual McFare I guess I understand why some people would look forward to it. It's certainly different so in that respect it's good. I'd look forward to the return of other things though. Bring back the original apple pies and I'd stop in there occasionally! It's curious how the "pink slime" fanatics aren't all up in arms over Mcrestructured Mcmeat Mcproducts. We all know better than to ask what's in the sausage we eat. Heart, tripe and stomach, just like mother used to make are only some of the 70 or so ingredients it takes to Mcmake one. There's a lot of reasons why it's not a regular menu item. Primarily, it's an expensive product to make so they use it as a promo item. If they went all out on it, there'd be a shortage of waste products which would further compound the already high cost. I saw it was at various places around here during the holidays. Some had a buy a Big Mac, get a McRib for $1. Any of the stores that want to spend the money can get it year round. They'll be around. Enjoy them when they are if you like them, or avoid them if you don't.

I love McRibs too and always try to get one when they decide to carry them, which here in Texas is more often than in other parts of the country. I have found the frozen rib "patties" at some stores which I have bought and they are pretty close if you fix them right. I wish they would share those lobster ones with the rest of the country! I found this info on another site "En-Cor makes the same pork patties that McDonald's uses for the McRib. They come in the frozen foods section in a big yellow "family-sized" box, with six of the patties in a similar thin, sweet barbecue sauce. You can buy similar rolls and duplicate the McRib experience at home easily enough"

While there is some hamburger than can have some red dye in it - what you are seeing is actually the oxygen that goes through the packaging making the meat red. The grey meat inside of it has had no oxygen, so it has turned gray. As long as it is fresh and does not have an off smell - it is fine and normal.

I didn't read the entire article - figure I need to wolf down a few more of these things before I get grossed out! My wife bought me one a week or two ago, so maybe we got an early release in a select location?

In general I'm a sucker for boneless "ribs" as long as I don't bite into hard chunks of fat or other material that's not been ground down enough to be unrecognizable. In reality I think I just like barbecue sauce!

Two comments on my recent McRib experience:

1) The pickles threw me for a loop. I like pickles but they seemed out of place on the sandwich.

2) TOO SMALL!!! I believe you should at least feel full - and preferably feel sick to your stomach - after a fast food meal. Even with fries, the McRib didn't meet the minimum criteria.

You're so right Bumblebees, the baked things are awful. Nobody goes to McVomit to get health food!

And yes, pickles on them. Ugh. Like Arby's when they used to have the great Q sandwich made from real chunks of beef, but they'd ruin it by putting pickles on it.

patty, the only thing my Sheltie, Cooper, will eat at McDonald's is the chicken sandwich off the dollar menu, although I do plead guilty to drinking their coffee occasionally.

One day I'd stopped at McD's and gotten a sandwich for Cooper and my daughter, Ashley, laughed. She said "what a ringing endorsement for McDonald's. You won't eat their food, but you do feed the dog there". LOL

I read the McRib article, BTW. It's made of bleached stomach, tripe and heart. Yup, it's offal. Or is that awful? LOL

And that'll teach me. I don't eat fast food as a general rule, if we go through a drive through my normal response is "I'm not hungry, thank you". However, a couple of times a year I'll go to my local A&W and get a chili cheese dog and a root beer. They still have car hops and the root beer comes in those frosty mugs. I don't want to know what's in those hot dogs, or in the chili, or what unholy ingredient makes the cheese stay liquid.

Although I absolutely love love love the sausage biscuit, there's no way I'd eat another McRib. The first time it came out I tried one and even back then I thought it was gross - and back then fast food was at least a twice-weekly event. BTW, I do occasionally get a McDouble and fries, my dog will eat the burger, but won't touch the fries. The biggest problem I see with the burgers is the amount of salt in them.

I ate one when they first came out and wasn't impressed. I wouldn't buy one again. I prefer the fish or chichen sandwich.

Generally speaking I can't do fast food but I must admit to giving into a KFC dinner or a Wendy's Spicy Crunchy Chicken Sandwich maybe twice a year.

Having said that I am a sucker for good wings or burgers at a good Pub style restaurant. They really are no better for you. They just cost more but clog the arteries and bunge the colon just as much as McRib.

Ticks me that good has to be bad....

What fine wine? Not sure these days. They don't make Ripple anymore. Is Thunderbird still around? Mad Dog 20/20? 3buck Chuck is probably too good to go with it.
