I really like that fabric! and the price didn't take my breath away. I would do it but I am the 1 in 100 who thinks very differently from the other people here. If it was my shade in my house - it's agreed that I like the fabric a lot- I would make the shade, hang it and admire it. I'm old now and I don't care what anyone else thinks of my decisions. If it makes me happy, I do it.

Pinch_Me - I wasn't planning on buying the fabric from that site. It was one of the options at the window treatment store that I was at today from one of the Roman shade manufacturers.

So you COULD get the shade made in that fabric! Do it!

Yes, I could ..., but I am concerned that it may be too monochromatic for the room and that perhaps I should introduce more color.

Have you decided on what color you want to use as an accent? If you're concerned that the fabric you've picked out (which is beautiful, IMO) is too much black, maybe you can find another fabric that has your chosen accent color as a dominant color and the black as a detail color.

Usuallly fabrics come in several colors for each pattern. does this one have another color that would work?

I thought the fabric I liked would be too much also, so I only have a valance, and a bamboo shade hidden underneath that. It keeps the ''busyness'' of the fabric separated from all the stuff on the counter. I don't use the shade very much so this was a functional solution for me also.

I think that fabric is stunning but think it's a little dark for a large window. You may be able to find it in another color way with black as an accent color.

I like the fabric. If you use a fabric that is this dark, you might cut the darkness by using a secondary solid color lighter trim, either around the edge or 4-8 inches in from the side edge. This is fashionable right now and adds some classiness.

How often will you lower the shade?

amazing. I do have some images of roman shades and you can
easily see your fabric would look far better.

You could also do two different fabrics like this.

I really love roman shades and we have a wonderful 6-foot one over a picture window in the living room that is really great.

Just don't love them in the kitchen because the fabric holds odors and they basically cannot be easily cleaned. I'd prefer solars, to be honest, or natural materials that at least can be damp-wiped.

Having said that, if you're set on a roman and use the fabric you've selected on a 6-foot window, I feel it would be dominant and rather dark -- much like the last pic boxer posted.

People often talk about "color at the window" and it always puzzles me because in a relatively monochromatic kitchen as it's been described, anything with color or anything dark is going to advance visually and pop.

Window treatments are one of my loves but I don't want them to be the first thing someone notices in a room unless there's something super duper about the windows or you're trying to use them to disguise.

So I look for colors that blend -- something that flows with the BM Straw on the walls and perhaps has a subtle print. Otherwise, the risk is upstaging the kitchen IMO and it happens a lot.

Thanks for the pics and the suggestions. I am starting to think that I am going to go with a dark green fabric with straw (and a bit of apricot) colored flowers as a cornice or valance above a Hunter Douglas Silhouette or Pirouette window covering. I have a lot of direct sunlight (southern exposure) and I'm thinking that being able to control the light would be a good thing.
