I'm with you Kat. We have a 1995 Buick Riviera (they don't even make it anymore) and a 2006 Acura MDX. I am definitely not a car person. Good luck with the new one.....looking good.

Very pretty! I don't know what it is, but I bet it gets better gas mileage than your other ones. I'm a car person, but can't afford to buy them often. Besides, it makes more sense to hold on to them as long as you're happy. I drive a 10-year-old 4Runner and a 21-year-old Chevy "cop car." ;-)

i wanted a mini-van for so many years, i'm having a heck of time giving up my 2003 venture...the bummer is it's beginning to rust, and just got a dent in the rear, sigh...

I'm another who drives a car as long as it lasts. Last fall I traded in my beloved 1996 Honda Accord for a 2010 Honda Accord. I liked the old one better and I wish I still had it.

Isn't it hard to get used to a new one when the old fit like an old shoe? It's very cute. What kind of car is it?

My 1983 Toyota Tercel 4 WD station wagon is still
going strong in Idaho. It's 30 years old by now! lol
I was spoiled though, with the 2000 car, my Tercel
did not have cloth seats, air conditioning, or power steering!
lol AND it was a manual.

This is a Toyota Prius V, 2013. The color is, I believe,
called Clear Sky. It is a very pale metallic blue. It's very
strange starting a car with no key. The key can just be in
my pocket or purse! lol And the gas tank is only 11.9
gallons! wow....

The stereo sounds much better. And no place to play
a cassette tape! ahahahahaa
Backup camera, gps.... they didn't have any on the lots
that didn't have those. I think the salesman said that
the back up cams are going to be mandatory. It was hard
to find one that wasn't white. Seems like the whole lot
was filled with white cars. I wanted yellow, bright
purple or red. The salesman looked at me like I was crazy!
He said they were NOT available in THOSE colors! ahaha
there was a dull red, but not the style (read price) that I
decided on.

Oh very nice. So does it have the new car smell then? One of my favourite smells which I so seldom get to experience. We tend to keep our cars forever.

I'm stunned at the number of people who keep a car for so long! I trade mine in every couple of years! :)

We just got a new 2013 Prius last month too. Ours is navy blue. We traded a four year old Prius in and the new one gets better mileage...almost 50 mpg. We also got a new Honda Accord last month but that's my husband car. It's also navy blue and is the sports model. The car we traded for that was a 12 year old Maxima. This the first time in 35 years we haven't had a Nissan car.

That's a nice looking vehicle, congrats.

We also keep cars for a long time. My last dark green Saturn was a 1997 and had 185,000 miles on it when we replaced it with a 2000 Saturn, with the little half door by the backseat on the drivers side. It has 85,000 in it now, with no plans to replace it anytime soon, unless we start having major trouble with it, fingers crossed we don't.

DH had a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 148,000 miles on it. We bought it used in 2001. It's here to stay also for a long time. (really, really hoping both vehicles hold up for a while)

I'm still driving my 1996 Toyota Corolla, over 200,000 miles, still drive it to work each day. Saving for a new one, but it will be a few years. I know this one will hold up until then and the new one will probably be the last car I own, so It of course will be another Toyota.
Love the color and the style of yours. Great choice.

I am still driving my 2002 Mazda and will likely drive it for many more years.

katlan - just hope that no one hits your Saturn. Our 2002 Saturn wagon had less than 48,000 kms on it - so less than 30,000 miles - when I was rammed by a SUV speeding out of a car wash. He crossed 2 lanes of traffic - causing other cars to stand on their brakes, planning on making an illegal U turn. There I was, sitting in a designated turn lane at a light and bam. I had to have the car towed to the Police collision centre. I live in a no fault insurance province and the police do not come unless you need an ambulance. The damage was probably close to $4,000 - but Saturns do not hold their value and are not being made any longer. We received $3,500 for it from the insurance company - if not for the low mileage it would have been $2,500. Our plan was to drive it for 2 more years until my husband retired and then take taxis etc. But our dog is 9 and we still need the car and we didn't exactly have the luxury of time to look around - and in our situation and not wanting a "high" sitting car (car before the Saturn was a 1990 Honda Prelude) - there were not many deals to be had. I also have/had the creeps when driving due to the lunatics out there doing everything but watching the road. This all happened in late Feb. and we have had ice/snow storms and the rental did not have winter tires and was very wide. So now we have a 2013 Golf 4 door 2.5 Hatchback. I looked at the Jetta - could have had a fully loaded Jetta for the price of the base Golf, but it felt too wide for my husband - and the seat seemed higher. I am seeing a lot of people right now buying the same Golf for the same reason - narrow and sits low. I even had to pay $110 for floor mats. And it was a cash deal. So just be careful because I doubt your insurance company would pay to have your Saturn fixed - same goes with a lot of the older cars. I did look at Honda Civics - they were pushing the 2012 model - it was too wide - not smaller like some of the older models. We had hoped to buy a 1 or 2 year old car but our criteria was to find a car with fewer miles on it than our Saturn - there was only one - it was fully loaded with leather seats etc. so the cost of said Golf would have been considerably higher than our basic. So now we have a Black car with Black seats - and a white dog. Wonderful. I bought the Bowser bucket seat covers in pattern Windsor to try and keep down the white hair - as if. What really hurt was that our Saturn had 2 year old winter tires on it - the same size that our Golf will need - but we couldn't take them. When I went to get our belongings from the car they watched me like a hawk. An autowrecker is going to get a fortune for the parts of our car - but for us to take back a car with a VIN number indicating uninsurable was just not realistic. Our mechanic was devastated. I expect that when the warranty runs out in 4 years that we will have about 5,000 kms on it - if that. The good news is that in our No Fault province I was found Not at Fault. The better news is that the dog was not with me. I hope you enjoy your new car. Looks very nice. And it should hold some value. We didn't need the expense of a Golf in Canada, but after the Saturn disaster I was afraid to buy a cheaper car - I also hated the Honda Fit - just in case. Insurance wise, the Golf cost us less to insure than the Jetta would have - just as a Civic costs a lot more than an Accord. A couple of years ago our insurance coverage changed where I live - premiums went up but coverage went down considerably. I called 5 days before the renewal date and asked how much to bring it back to what it had always been - and paid the difference - as did many people. The new car has even higher coverage. We don't carry the key unless we are in the car - cost to replace is $240 Cdn. plus tax. The dealership (7 minutes from our house - and the collision centre our Saturn was towed to is part of the dealership) had 6 of the base 5 door models in stock - all of course with the heated seats. We had a choice of white, black, navy, red or as I call it "blind side silver". I didn't want white - I look awful in red - and since I always turn my head rather than relying on mirrors I did not want the silver. Choice B would have been navy. Our Saturn was sort of the colour of your Prius. The only reason we had it was because we stopped to look at a used Saab that turned out to be a manual - I can't drive a manual. The Saturn wagon was in the showroom and was fully loaded and I had some GM points. But it was a lemon - other people have had luck - we spent a fortune on it.

Both of our vehicles are close to twenty years old, too. It just seems foolish to turn over a car while it has many good years left, doesnt it? I have no idea what I might get when it's time to relinquish my Toyota Avalon! It's been a great great car. I don't even like to think about it.
My husband gets the itch every once in awhile, and we've even been looking a time or two.

I love the color of your new car, kat. I agree with you that car lots seem to resemble a bunch of parked fleet vehicles.

Foolish? No - not in my book. I get bored with my cars after a short time. :)

But - for me - a car isn't just transportation. It's an extension of myself. :)

We gave up the 12 year old Maxima because things were starting to need repairs. But I must say I love the new bells and whistles on both cars and like the revamped Prius better than our four year old.

We drive so little that it's easy to keep a car for years. We like nice cars, but they don't have to be new.

Our current Jaguar is a platinum 2005 X-Type VDP with 24K miles. We traded in a red 1995 XJR. We usually buy a dealer's demo with a few miles on it to get the 6-year warranty.

Only the most recent, 2013 Jaguars have looked good to me. When you can't distinguish one car from any other make on the road...nevermind. I like to be able to find my own car in a lot!
