Designer fabrics

I was recently gifted a huge carton of designer fabric books from the interior designer that works with our corporation. You know the kind--grommets on the top and strips of stock paper windowpaning the edges. Some are silk, some brocade, velvet, satin.

Aside from making a few lined liquor bottle bags for Christmas gifts, I'm wondering what to do with them.

I've made one crazy quilt in my life as a gift. The fabrics are perfect for another but it's just not my style.

A velvet-backed luxurious living room throw? What else would you do with these kinds of fabrics?

Piece some together for fabulous, ornate tote bags. Carry your groceries in style!

Make tiny drapes, bedspreads and rugs for dollhouses and sell them on eBay.

Pillows?

Christmas tree ornaments (stuffed)?

Besides tote bags they would make wonderful designer style purses, wallets and other accessories that go inside purses, ie' cell phone carriers, small change purses, evening bags. Maybe place mats?

lol i only picked up ohhh ummm 40 or so yards and i can never go back and figure outy what they were. a silk linen blend in navy, gold and cream plaid for the man cave. and i don't remember what else lmao (these drugs are really getting to me! i don't even remember fabric shsses). i do remember i had to get offline before i passed out that day because i got so dizzy! today i'm attempting a drug free life. its 12:30 and i'm still standing...but i need a nap lol

Hanging fabric with starch

I have hung fabric on walls using the starch method. I only used small squares of various home dec fabric that I had left over after making a shower curtain. I just scattered them around in 2s and 3s, random patterns, overlapping some pieces. I didn't prewash them and they stayed up for years. When I was tired of them, I just peeled them off the wall and used them for something else. Love that you can do that and it doesn't hurt the fabric and therefore it is reusable. Hope you post pics when you're done! As to all the labels that say dry clean only: They put that on everything now. I think they do it just to protect themselves from any problems/liability if something happens in washing.

Their fabrics are not made by them. They are from several different fabric houses. They're named differently on their site, so unless you know the other names it's sold under, like Robert Allen, you may not be able to find it. Try searching for the one you want using Google images. The one linked below is actually Robert Allen 'Lattice' in Bamboo. It comes in several colors. I bought some for $3.99 a yard in the colorway called 'Bamboo' on one of the sales from Barn Fabrics. I like the Monet Storm. The fabric is soft and the texture adds interest without being too busy. I think it's a very pretty color that looks good next to cream, tan, gray, and white. I like the blue undertone. The darker color will hide stains and you can use light color rugs, pillows, and throws to balance the darker tone of the sofa. We replaced 2 sofas with an l-shaped sectional and don't find issues with seating, we can seat one more person with this style. Everyone does want to lay in the coveted corner though :-)

The samples I bought at a bag sale were pretty diverse, ranging from heavier upholstery material to cotton velveteens, damasks and assorted heavier cottons. I made pillows galore. I also used a nice nubby cotton one to make a padded, lined book cover for my husband's study bible. It is wearing like iron! And custom fitted bookcovers are really easy to make.

I just got some purse sewing patterns, and thanks for the idea........they would make perfect purses! I have been considering a crazy quilt to finish the stash up, and I think if you coupled them with some plain, substantial solids, and skipped the embroidery and laces, and made the blocks with some of the flip and sew more geometric shapes, and then sewed them together with plain, dark sashing, you could tone it down sufficienty to make a nice, formal bed covering without all the busy-ness of a traditional crazy quilt. That's my plan, anyway and I'm sticking to it. LOL.
