how do you serve crackers?
Comments (10)I love to pick up odd sized decorative plates at Marshalls/Homegoods and I think they're perfect for crackers, I'm not a basket person either :-) I did recently find a stainless or chrome wire basket that I thought was nice (at Marshalls of course) and I use it with a cloth napkin for bread at the table, but I'd use it for crackers for a larger group. I also like a wire basket lined with wax/butcher paper - they do this in a restaurant I go to and I keep forgetting to buy the right kind of paper - its not regular cut-rite wax paper but stiffer. I also use a pretty Japanese soup bowl for crackers sometimes, it doesn't hold too many but its perfect for the 2 of us....See MoreSpring systems and arhaus, crate&barrel, z gallerie sectional
Comments (4)Both Sir John and Freethinker99 have given excellent analyses on the various options available. On the other hand consumers must constantly balance questions of quality vs. cost. There is no doubt that 8 way hand tied coils and 5/4" solid wood frames are superior to drop-in coils (or no-sag) springs and plywood frames. On the other hand a well-built plywood frame sofa with an inexpensive no-sag spring system, costing many hundreds of dollars less, can still be expected to last at least 10 years. Cushions and fabric are far more likely to wear out long before the frame and springs. On sofas retailing for under $1500 by far the most popular type of cushion construction is a 1.8 density HR (High Resilience) polyurethane foam with a polyester fiber wrapping. This type of cushion construction will typically hold up for only 3-5 years before beginning to lose its shape and resilience. If you are looking for a sofa to hold up for 10 years you will need to upgrade your cushions. The two most popular upgrade options include spring-down or high density foam cushions. Spring-down cushions are constructed using a coil spring system inside which is surrounded by foam and typically topped with a down/feather/fiber blend. Another popular cushion upgrade option is one using a high density foam. The higher the cushion density, the more foam is used per cubic inch and the greater the cushion durability. Although a 2.0 density HR (High Resilience) foam is a definite improvement over the standard 1.8 density, I would recommend a 2.2 density or higher if you want your cushions to last 10 years. Fabric durability is the other primary concern for a sofa lasting 10 years. Although there are literally hundreds of variations that can affect a specific fabric's durability, in general look for thicker, heavier fabrics that are tightly woven. Keep in mind that a fabric's cleanability may also be a factor as a "dirty" or badly stained couch is unappetizing no matter how long you have owned it....See MoreNeed some help with fabric choice in kitchen
Comments (19)Wow, you guys are great! EMH, it's called Golden Crema. I also found it called Crema Romanzo and Golden Delicatus. I think these places just make up names. LL, I don't know that I love red, but I don't mind it. I'm not sure I have any color I truly love. Although my daughter will say that black is my fav color because that's all I wear. I do have a Dobag rug in front of the fridge and another in the family room (where that 3rd window is) that I really like and that will stay. Here's what it looks like and its in front of the fridge I think i'm liking the Suzani direction for the reasons Marcolo stated - kind of hip & current, but an ancient pattern. I like the Ikat's too. pllog, melissa, right - since it is for Roman shades, I won't ever see the whole big red circle. I won't ever pull the shades down. I really could care less if the elderly Chinese couple next door sees us cook. It is more rusty than bright Chinese red - the local fabric shop near me has it in their window so I've visited it in person. The smaller circle is definitely a rust that matches the rust (caramel) in the granite. And the cream background is the same as the granite. Yeah it will probably make the pendant disappear, won't it? The pendant actually has red about 1/4" all around the bottom. I wanted a bolder one but this was the only one my husband liked. Florantha, wow, thanks! It will be 2 shades within the window frame. I hadn't even thought about randomizing the pattern. Would you? I didn't even think out of the symmetrical box! I should stop in C&B - that Marimekko is cool. I remember them having a pretty good selection of fabrics for purchase too at their design center (if it is still in that store downtown!) Mikomum, thanks! There were more windows in the original plan, but when the costs came in, we got rid of the required steel beam and went for shear wall instead. Those windows are south facing so the light is good all year/all day long. The piece in the back is more kitchen cabinets, although with small knobs rather than large pulls, 27" deep to hide the stereo equipment. Yes! Florantha does deserve a gift certificate! I like the birds! And the brown with red flowers one! (maybe I do like red ;) The grey/black/white ones might work perhaps, but for some reason don't seem warm enough to me? (But what do I know, I'm really bad at this stuff...) I also failed to mention that I planted a tree outside that window. The kitchen is like 1 story (almost) up, so eventually we will have greenery visible in the lower part of those window. It won't get tall enough to block any light, but will be bright green. I forgot the name of the kidn of tree, but they are pretty common here. It's got very small leaflets on willow like branches....See MoreMy Reveal!!!
Comments (94)I think my kitchen’s huge size contributed to that feeling but i think that styling can definitely help (adding in wood elements on the counters or baskets or things with texture). I also think brass helps. I love my pendants and wonder if I had done brass hardware if that would have been a good idea for adding more warmth or if it would have been too much brass and too trendy. Definitely backsplash could change things up too. I hesitated to use real marble in the backsplash worrying that it would make the quartz look too fake. But I have since seen many people pair marble with quartz and i think it looks great. I think using smaller scale marble pieces can help also. Part of what made it feel stark was just getting used to it being white too since it used to all be dark. Good luck!...See MoreBrianne Margolin
