We've come so far...but still so far to go!!!

Been reading these posts since the 1st of the year, when we decided it was time to "take the plunge"....

Thanks to all for so much great information, especially to the actual PB's who post here, with both honesty and humor!

Who knew my sense of humor would be the most important element of this whole experience?

We're in Maryland, in the DC suburbs.

Here are our specs:

I am just disconsolate at the lack of work that's been done since April. The rain has been unending, but we've had sunny skies for almost a week and still no one has come to start the decking, which is what is holding everything up...I know it'll get done eventually, but we had such grand plans for our daughter's graduation on June 7th, and it doesn't look like the pool will be done by then... :( It's been wonderful to see all your great ideas, your creativity and hear all your stories. Keep em coming...

Congratulations on your new pool! It is going to be fantastic..One of the first things our PB told us at our pre-construction meeting was that there would be days when there was a ton of activity and progress, and then stretches of no work at all due to crews working on other projects.

I love your yard and surroundings. Being a California native, I think it is really cool to see pictures of other parts of the country and neighborhoods.

That's a big pool! Congrats, it's going to look very nice with all those trees as a backdrop! Unfortunately it doesn't look good for a 06-07 finish at this point sorry to say. Good luck!

Did we have a worse winter than usual for zone 5? My 1 yr sweet autumn clematis hasn't returned. Another established clematis, type 3, didn't return. If it's Venosa Violacea I'm going to be upset, I have to check my garden "map". My container spruce, which I wrap well each year and made sure to water during warmer temps is really brown. My 2 year Fothergilla Major Mt. Airy died. My 1st year Willow Hakuro Nishiki looks completely dead. My 3rd year Golden Spirit died back to the snow line, but this didn't happen in prior years. My "Grace" came back a real winner, no dieback at all. My Sombreuil Rose bush, which I usually bury the crown, wrap in burlap and cover each winter, though the only thing I did this past winter was cover the crown and nothing more, returned with very little dieback to my amazement. Better than any other year. Go figure. Some hostas, which I was warned last year after purchasing that they aren't hardy, never to be seen again. Some groundcover sedum which probably never had a chance to establish -- nothing. Also lost a Weigela My Monet, thankfully still under warranty. Very Bad year!!!! Oh, and don't fret about the Asters. I had several varieties and they've all disappeared. I suspect it's the rabbits.

I lived on mousse the first few weeks. Ok maybe it wasn't legal in the beginning but I'm still on Atkins almost a year later and 38 pounds lost so it didn't hurt. 1 small box sugar free jello (chocolate fudge of course) 2 small cartons of whipping cream 1 block of cream cheese soften the cream cheese, add whipping cream, mix then add pudding. When it gets too thick add 1/2 cup of cold water.

My old kitchen definitely didn't look bad. The only thing about the old cabs that wasn't bad was the doors. The boxes were total garbage, otherwise I would have done a reface on some of them. CEFreeman - You're right! I hated that weird cabinet! lol It stuck out into the room and created a weird traffic pattern. Good riddance! shappy - I can't imagine anyone liking that sink! The biggest problem with the darn thing is that the middle bowl isn't recessed into the sink. Being an over mount, that middle bowl is the same height as the outer rim. Wash anything and you have to rest it on the edge of that inner bowl and water runs out the front and back of the sink. Took a bath every time I used it. If they had just recessed that middle bowl . . . . . . In hindsight, I should have taken a sledgehammer to that darn sink and bought a new one for the people who took the kitchen. Would have been good therapy. lol Meanwhile I am LOVING using the single bowl utility sink in the laundry room. After trying to decide between single vs. double bowl, I know I made the right choice to go with a single. Can't wait to use my new one. This is my temp kitchen/laundry room.

Those daisies are asters also known as a montauk Rose. The lower lights are florescent and give off heat, they heat the rootstock and help start the process of soil drying, and keeping the soil close to room temperature. My readings say I am usually within 2 degress of 72 to 74 air temp. they are timed to come on one hour before before the upper cool LED lights come on. Although I'm about to construct a Steve Bucket Light or two....I have 3 babies that are really meant to go outside permanently

Oh Tresw it's just getting worse....our PB is definitely having problems communicating with us...and worse, he doesn't seem eager to solve a problem, rather he's waiting for someone to "call him back"....that's not how I do business. I am very reluctant to tell anyone how to do their job, but in this case it's getting difficult not to criticize. All the decking/grading materials for our deck and patio were due here Friday before the holiday. Tomorrow it will be a week since and still no sign of delivery. And absolutely no explanation from the PB other than "I'm waiting for a call back"....wouldn't you use another vendor, rush the materials, find an alternative? Where is the problem-solving, the let's-get-it-done attitude? I've given up on entertaining on the 7th. Would love for the patio area to be down at the very least, so folks could sit outside - even if the pool deck isn't finished. They'll have to work fast, but it's do-able. Right? :(

It looks great and it will be over before you know it. Ours has been in for a year now and you'll be surprised how quickly you forget the problems. BTW what part of MD are you in, looks like our area, western Howard County.

Communication problems with your PB? Who ever heard of such a thing? LOL!

Seriously though, I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. A truck of decking materials does not just disappear. I hope he gets on the ball so you can have your party.

thanks for checking in! just so happens that lots has been going on in the last two weeks, but it's still very incomplete. For starters, we had lots more digging while the pb's landscaping crew came in and buried some downspouts and dug out the patio and planting boxes, etc....but still no sign of the actual pavers that will make up both patio and pool deck....so PB does a total 180, sends the plaster crew out and lo and behold we were pebbleteched on Thursday and water was added Friday. PB will complete the patio and decks within the next 10 days...NOW HERE'S THE KICKER...the whole family left town for 10 days at the Jersey shore on Thursday, and we won't see the pool until the 6th! It's sitting in the backyard all ready for us and we're not there!!! PB is minding the pool while we're away, brushing and balancing, etc...esp. since he's building the patio all week anyway.
Murphy's Law or what? I'll post pics next week when I return....have to check the log to see if you've updated your pics too...hope you're all swimming now!

JULY update....I can't believe it's still not done...but at least the pool itself is really stunning. Saying many novenas that our patio pavers (MIA since MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND) arrive sometime this week and we can put this project to bed!

It looks great, congrats on the fill! Sorry to hear about the other problems though. I got a chuckle out of your post in another thread about equipping everyone with tetanus shots before they walk out to the pool, LOL! Keeping a sense of humor is about the only way to survive delays!
