decluttering question...kind of tricky...
Comments (45)Wow, Molly, I can say that's the first time I've ever seen it right next to a wingchair with a blanket over it... :) UnicaHome's price is exactly the same as DWR's right now...so I guess I need to find a design pro who can get me a discount somehow... pecanpie, it *is* the most comfortable chair in the world, IMO. When folks say that everything modern is uncomfortable (the Eames Lounge chair/ottoman is not included in that either, and is notably less expensive--that was an object of desire for me for a long time too, but you can't curl up in that one), they mean like the Barcelona chairs, the Eames Chaise (yikes, that's just painful to look at!), etc...they're really not all that good for the back and such. But the womb chair has all the right angles, and relationship to the ottoman, and moveable cushions for lumbar support, doesn't push a short person's head forward, is wide enough to have different seating positions in--all my requirements :). And seriously, you feel like you're tucked into a safe place when you're in it. It was designed by a man for a woman, actually (wasn't called the Womb until people saw how it came out, as I understand it); we still have to get my DH into DWR to sit in one. He's looking forward to it--hope I haven't overhyped it, but I don't think I have. demicent, I can't consider them spoils etc. because I don't use them, actually...they're just up in the attic taking up space. So it's not like I'd be giving up something I use a lot or anything. And color? Gee, I'm stil trying to convince myself that we can get it at all, since it's got fabric on the back...the Eames lounge/ottoman would seem to be a safer bet, cat-wise, since it's wood on the back and leather on the front...there's a leather version of the womb chair that would answer some of these issues, although scratched up leather would just break my heart...but they really aren't scratching much up recently, so maybe I'm worrying over nothing. And on a different topic--could you please just send me one more e-mail, even empty, so I can find those amazing epistles and finally get around to responding to them? They're somewhere and I can't find them! (it's not just your things, it's a lot of things--brain fog, don't you know...)...See MoreExterior paint colours
Comments (3)I don't think it's possible to have a black siding without making the house look cape cod-ish. What color would the door be? What overall style do you want? If you want black, I would embrace the whole new england aesthetic all the way and do light windows with a dark red door--the windows would have to be pretty light, I think. But it depends on the look you want. Maybe post a picture of the house and some of your inspiration houses?...See MoreI am stuck-trying to figure out a tricky small morning room
Comments (30)Well I found this "down and out" mount and think it may solve my woes. I will have to deal with or patch the hole in the wall behind the tv-but I may leave a smaller opening for components and such. The house was built in 2000 and I just think that was before people started getting super large tv's, so I won't feel too bad about filling it up (having a carpenter re wall it and patch and paint, I can't see such a small space holding a tv again. Anyway here it is, it just swings up and down and out (it will clear fireplace mantles), you can also get it with a pivot head to angle it for viewing preference. It has great reviews, so I am kind of hopeful it can solve the tv issue. Oh and I would probably paint the wall bracket to match the wall so it blended in better....See MoreHelp with paint color suggestions for parent's kitchen refresh!
Comments (18)Maybe two-tone? Paint some but not all? I really agree with everyone else that the worst thing in that kitchen is the backsplash. And painting all the cabinets is just SO much work -- by you or by someone you pay a lot of money to do all that work. It just seems like better bang for your buck to lose the backsplash and keep some or all of the cabinets as they are. When you take more pictures, can you please take pictures of all the cabinets? I wonder if it's just that there are too many cabinets overall that are making the stain tone especially overwhelming. Especially in kitchens the age of your parents', people tended to just fill every nook and cranny with identical cabinets. No variation, and no breathing room. Today, we are favoring fewer cabinets -- especially fewer uppers -- and cabinets with mixed finishes, etc. to make our kitchens less like a cabinet showroom and less claustrophobic. I wonder if there is a bank of uppers you can remove and replace with art or a window that would make a bigger difference than just painting everything white. I'm also wondering how much the lighting is contributing. Could swapping out very yellow bulbs for cooler-colored lighting help? I'm just wondering how overwhelming that cabinet stain would be if half of it at eye-level (the uppers) disappeared, the lighting was cooler, and the wall/counter colors actually toned it down a bit....See Morecarriem25
