New Doctor

My shoulders and neck have finally reached the point I have trouble sleeping and getting out of bed in the mornings, and somedays cannot raise my arms over my head. I have an appointment with a new ortho dr in the morning, please keep me in your prayers.

Listen to me, Tisha, just stand by her the best you can---you do know only part of the story---and even if it is in response to outside factors, the pain to HER is still real. We know she did have Lyme's Disease from a tick bite she got in Ct. while delivering a horse----down here in the South----it had barely ever been heard of at that time---the aches and hurting joints all played their part in her suffering, though. Margie, after years of missing Mom so much, (They were celestial twins in the universe. They loved and fought each other more than anyone else on earth..) she began to rely more and more on painkillers---her husband would call and I would go over and try to help, but finally gave up----she was too much out of control and would go into screaming frenzies---we were never very close and that made it easier for me to just stay away from her. Margie's husband called early one morning to say she had died sometime in the early morning hours in a bathtub, with a syringe with partially dissolved painkiller medication in it. We went to St. Mary's Hosp. in Richmond to see her. I walked in the room with my family and and it was the FIRST time I'd seen peace on her face since our Mom died in 1984. Margie died July 27, 1997. I was relieved to see peace, not pain. She had a wisp of a smile on her face----the same sweet smile she had when she was a little girl.... I'm telling you this because you will always be plagued with questions. You will NEVER know the whole truth. It's her journey, Tisha and you can only help so much. Someday, you might not be able to help at all. What you CAN do is try your best to support her, even if it's a 'Thinking of You Card' in the mail--it's something positive for her to connect with....being remembered. Just let her know you still care about her. ---And you can pray for relief and support for her, and guidance and patience for you. One thing that has gotten me through some rough times is the uncanny way 'Lucky Pennies' would always show up when I needed a boost. I would be doing some dirty job, tired and worried----and suddenly, there would be a Lucky Penny, right in front of me, waiting. I always heard the words, 'I Am with you' in my heart, with each penny I picked up out of the dirt and grime. It helped immensely. It never hurts to say a little prayer. I send you warm support, prayers, and a great big hug to help you along, Tisha.

I love looking at the ads in those better than the articles. I was checking out Architectural Digest and apparently gold bracelets and large masses of diamonds will make you happy and make any moment "better". Most implied the possibility of a devastating depression if the advertised items were not a part of driving your astonishingly expensive sportscar. LOL! I like your Rename of Real Simple, Andie. Too true.

Hi marie, i read with insterest about your daughter, and now being a widow of a diabetic and going through a ton of things when Al was in the hospital i have to agree with Agnespuffin. although i live in canada, in a large northwestern ontario city with a doctor stortage over 30,000 people where i live are without a doctor and must use the er or walkin clinics (we are lucky in this country as there is no or very little cost, only the rich pay). One of Al's doctor's did not have hospital visiting priveledges and so he had to see a new doctor at the hospital, this doctor changed all his meds around and he was on rapid-nova insulin 3 times a day and nph at night and this was given on a sliding scale, which i had to give him every day of hislife (we were married for 25 years last Nov.). i will admit that i was glad when his old doctor retired this new one was more up on new meds. we also have a diabet. northwest, which diabetic goes to school and can bring another person alone. you would be surprised what foods can bring the sugars up. also and i know everone is different but Al had a white coat syndrom which made his blood sugars go up when he sees someone in a lab coat! also if the nurses didn't give him the insulin at his usual times he would have a reaction. i feel sorry for your family and your daughter and wish you the best. ps agnes picked up joan hess and mary daheim at the library, the kichen will be there and so will the paint! debbie

I am now nearing 62 years of age. I've had SO much done to me, including biopsies, hysteroscopings, endometrial ablation (age 53), sonohysterograms, trying to lose weight, progestins (heaven help the flood bleeding!), Prometrium, Mirena IUD (only lasted 3 months with it and had to have it out due to increased migraines) and the list goes on and on. Yet, I'm still building a lining and don't know why. My FSH level comes back at 17 (Canadian value) and my estradiol is at 170 (Canadian value). I'm bleeding/spotting constantly now. I've just had another biopsy and blood work but, don't know the results yet (aka: SCARED in spite of having had 6 of them over 9 years) PAP's normal and I have NO clue (neither does my third gyn know) WHY this is happening. I can't say that I get regular periods as it may be that my progesterone level is too low in conjunction with the estrogen levels? Answer from this gyn is "Hysterectomy". Great but...it doesn't solve the REASON why I have this still going on, does it? It's a "go to answer" when they are stumped. I have signed the papers for it but, there's no surgical date set yet, which could be next year (2019)??? I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions would help as I'm tired of wearing pads and have gone to bladder control pads for size. Uggghhhh......reading "Dr. Google" too much has me going nuts (as do the docs who don't know). Help if you can, please. :). TY!

Are you able to sew at all? I know you ride bikes. How is that effected?

That's bad. I hope the new doctor will be able to suggest something that works. Another thing that might help some is to consider the condition of your mattress. I once brought on a lot of trouble by sleeping for a prolonged period on a sofa bed (there being no bathroom upstairs) and was so surprised when I went back to sleeping upstairs and my neck and shoulders got better. I'll be thinking of you. Let us know the outcome.

Thinking of you and praying you find relief.
If I do a lot of sewing or gardening I take a
couple of Ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer
going to bed. A DR told my daugher to sleep on
her back with her hands down at her sides and thumbs
tucked under her thighs. It really helps take the
stress out of the shoulders and neck.

Thanks everyone. Mayme, that is the only way I can sleep, and it does work, thanks. I have trouble turning over with any pressure on my shoulders. Hurts up into my neck. I have trouble doing any repetitive things, like crochet or hand work. I can ride the bike as long as DH doesn't mind me shifting my weight around some. We have the handlebars set so I can sit fairly straight and oddly enough that doesn't hurt as much as operating the mouse on the computer. I can sew, and do most anything as long as I don't do it too long. I have to get up every 10 minutes or so and move around. Makes it hard to get much done. Can't mop the whole house at once, just a room at at time...

The doc thinks it is due to cervical strain. There is narrowing between all the cervical vertibre, but not enough for surgery. I start physical therapy in the morning. I have to go 3 days a week for 3 weeks and take 800 mg Ibuprofen 3 times a day, non negotiable. He asked why I haven't seen an orthopedic before if this has been going on for 10 years, and when I told him I had been to 2 and all they did was say arthritis, shoot Kenalog in the joint then send me home, he was not happy.

Beverly, That is a lot of ibuprofen. Make sure that you take it with food. It can cause stomach problems. I am sure that the doctor told you that and if he didn't he should have. I hope it helps the problem. Colleen

Beverly, Glad to hear you're getting some help, now. Hope the therapy helps and surgery isn't in your future. Are you taking that much Ibuprofen just for the 3 weeks of therapy?

Let us know how therapy goes......if you're able to move afterwards. @:)

You might want to look into a different mouse. I got the mouse that's in the left picture at one of the local computer stores. I can move the ball with my thumb or with my forefinger. I have put it on my lap when using it up high hurts.

My DD has RA and she was seeing quack (the only DR her insurance would cover) that was giving her only hugh amounts of aspirin. After going through 4 more docs she finally found one that helped her. And the really scary part is they were all specialists.
Through diet change and massages and meds she is now feeling much better.
Sounds like you have finally founds a good one too.

Glass, I would love that mouse, but the only place I use one is at work and they "issue" what we can use. At home I have a touch pad on the laptop.

Ahhhh, Glass, I wish it were work related, but it has been going on (off and on) for many years now, just gets works with the little mouse movements. They have gotten me a nice chair with better support and let me go the the physical therapy department to do my exercises today. I can't complane too much.

Oh Beverly I feel for you. My dh has a compressed disc and has a lot of pain. I'm glad this dr seems to be doing something for you.

I am so sorry to hear of this, grammy. I hope that things are getting easier for you and that the therapy is helping. I know that you prefer to be active so it must be hard. Glad to hear that you have more confidence in this doctor.
