I had one a few years ago. They gave me Versed, the memory eraser, which I believe is the standard protocol. I don't think it's a painful procedure; it just involves gagging. They can't put you to sleep for it.

I know a man who did it without the Versed because he needed to drive himself to work afterward. I asked him what it was like, and he said, "It was the same for me as it was for you. You just don't remember it." :-)

Years ago when my brother was hospitalized and critically ill, the doctors wanted to scope his lungs. Tony wanted me in the room with him while it was being done. They gave him IV Valium and Versed. The scope was inserted through one of his nostrils. The only time gagging is involved is when the scope passes through the throat because it triggers the gag reflex as it goes past, but once the scope is past the point where the back of the mouth and the throat meet, the gag reflex no longer comes into play.

Hours later (Tony was back in his room in ICU), he was still quite groggy and said, "I wish they'd hurry up and do it so I can get it over with!" I will never forget the look on his face when we told him it had already been done! :-)

My gastro is all done and it was a snap. The results were negative which is good and bad. No damage from the Fosomax but the Dr. want's me to now have a barium (sp?) swallow. I have an appt for that to be done this Thursday morning. But, I'm thinking that I need to talk with my Primary Care first. I have chest x-rays twice a year and am due for a chest C-scan in June. I would feel better if My PC knew of yet another radio-active event before it happens. For all of you very smart KT people...barium does have a radio-active eliment to it, right?

Anyway, we were at the endoscopy center at 12:00. the process was fast and I was completely out for it. I was all finished, and was walking back out the door, heading for the car at 1:30. Not bad. I slept for most of the afternoon 2:30 - 6:00. My husband picked up chinese food for dinner so all was well.

I am glad that it is over with. I am glad that they didn't see anything, but at the same time, I am sorry that you don't have any answers.

I hope that the up coming test is able to help the doctors find out what is wrong and that you are feeling better real soon. ((((Hugs))))

Ditto what Heather said. And and added bit of info, talk with your dentist about Fosomax. It did a real number on my Mom's teeth, and another ladies jaw bone.
