before and after nightstand

I found this sturdy little night stand at a garage sale

for $25

and after, the sides are a different wood, so I went with

satin black. I was going to keep the wood fronts on the

shelves in the wood, but my taping job wasn't so hot

so I just painted them! lol I have two more nightstands

to finish for our bedroom, and I have to paint those too

but I'm using spray paint for sure on those!

Foxes, I can't wait to see how your DDs room comes out! Our "little" girl is a 25 year old career woman in another city now, but loves to come home to visit and stay in her old room. I hope someday she will have a child who can use her furniture--- we have just the chest and coatrack in her room right now, but there are two bookcases and a set of dolls furniture all painted by the same person that are in storage waiting for someday. Our mirrors are amazingly similar! I recently went over ours with gold rub 'n buff just to brighten it up. The glazing is cloudy and watered, which stopped bothering me when they began selling new mirrors like that. Your chandelier also reminds me of ours :) and our DDs bedroom stuff in her apt is PB matin toile in red, which she picked out with no prompting from me..... I feel have Done My Duty by the girl if she voluntarily selects toile!

If this is a commercial product, it's almost certain it does not have "polyurethane" on it. Poly is a DIY product. Most likely it's a lacquer and probably a lacquer with a bit of color in it. Lacquer is mot common because it's fast to apply, fast drying, and easy to repair. You can buy aerosol lacquer in most home centers, Deft is a common brand. You may be able to restore the color by adding a bit of pigment. Since that will be hard for you to find, you could start with some artist's pencils in various shades. LIGHTLY scribble in some color, then smudge around with your finger. Err on the light side as the lacquer will darken. Spray on the lacquer lightly to lock it down. Repeat after it dries to sneak up on the color. If you have a more obscure area to run some trials on (e.g., bottom edge of drawer), that would be helpful.

I ended up not getting the upholstered headboard as both the color and condition were not the same as the pictures when I went to see it in person. This weekend however I found a few more pieces from a family that was downsizing, but now I have quite a bit of mahogany. Sorry, I'm just realizing how blurry the picture of the chest is but it's solid mahogany again with a serpentine front. I have 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor I'm wanting to redo so I could split up the furniture as both rooms are about the same size (roughly 12' X 12' with 9' ceiling) with original 1930 wood floors. So I'm thinking it would be good to split up the furniture, and add some rugs and lighter colors to break up the mahogany? I did order this ivory velvet quilt and shams so far for the bed. For paint colors, I was thinking of a pale blue for one bedroom and maybe a green-gray for the other?

My mother was an antique dealer when I was growing up - she called this piece a telephone stand, used as a side table beside the phone chair, with the shelves holding the phone book, newspaper and magazines.

You did a GREAT job refinishing this piece!
