Advice Needed on Stain on Nightstand Wood

I received a nightstand that had a huge stain on it. I tried using toothpaste and baking soda/water to remove it, which seemed to work, but now it is a bit lighter in that area. I've attached before and after pics.

Do you guys know why and how I would fix this? Does it just need some type of polyurethane oil to darken it back up?

almost looks like the drawer unit has no finish, a dark wax may lessen the lighter spot.

If this is a commercial product, it's almost certain it does not have "polyurethane" on it. Poly is a DIY product. Most likely it's a lacquer and probably a lacquer with a bit of color in it. Lacquer is mot common because it's fast to apply, fast drying, and easy to repair.

You can buy aerosol lacquer in most home centers, Deft is a common brand.

You may be able to restore the color by adding a bit of pigment. Since that will be hard for you to find, you could start with some artist's pencils in various shades. LIGHTLY scribble in some color, then smudge around with your finger. Err on the light side as the lacquer will darken. Spray on the lacquer lightly to lock it down. Repeat after it dries to sneak up on the color. If you have a more obscure area to run some trials on (e.g., bottom edge of drawer), that would be helpful.

We moved out and turned our home over to the floor guys and painters these past two weeks which is why I haven't responded to the request for pictures. I traveled back yesterday to check in and I am so pleased with the floors! But there is nothing much yet to photograph - an empty square room with 2 large windows being painted white on white;) This summer has been a time of "hurry up, then wait" with the home remodel, and I was hoping I could hunt down some night stands during this down time. I'm really not sure of what styles and colors would be best. The ideal would be to just keep an eye open until I came upon the right ones. I hope you'll be able to show us your progress. Using something thar your great grandmother probably made herself-few things can hold more significance, in my opinion. It's something so unique to have and use. My great grandmother whom I never met..I'd be so happy to have something of hers. Well I do have something of hers, but all immaterial)) And material things, something you can touch..it doesn't come instead of course, but it does have deep meaning. as for the dust, maybe can be cleaned very carefully? I know I wouldn't take anything precious to our dry cleaners who somehow ruined already three of my dresses/blouses..but you might know somebody who knows what he does, or at least can give you good advice.

Re-staining a wooden nightstand

Hi, I am trying to figure out how difficult it would be to change the color of a wooden nightstand. The line of bedroom furniture that I currently own - Tate Street by Thomasville, got discontinued and I am trying to find a replacement for the night stand. The closest design that I found does not have the same color. Only option I have now is to buy the nightstand, and then restain it to match the rest of the bedroom set. I am trying to figure out the feasibility of the above. I do not have any prior experience in wood work. Looks like ink spots. Could mineral spirit or denatured alcohol solve this problem? I read it once in some magazine. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
