The color is off. The color of the wood on the drawer fronts

and the top of the stand DO match. Looks off in this

picture. I could NOT find Hammerite paint. This supposedly

has a hammered finish (on the hardware) but not much and the

color is more of a charcoal than the black that it was supposed to be, but I can live with it! and if it bothers me, well, I can always repaint. The edge of the top is the satin black that is on the base. And the wood grain of the drawers match up so nicely. So for $115.00 for the finishes and the stands, I think I did alright. And I like the stands so much better than any new ones that I saw.

Just beautiful! Did you have to sand? Is the wood stained? I would have no idea how to do that.

Great job! For some reason, I think another framed picture over the bed would be good, or even something round but in a similiar size in the center. And how about a nice green plant on your dresser (artificial probably best) to add height, instead of blue candle. Could you get another little bench and put the two at the foot of the bed? Not sure about a rug on top of carpet - why bother? There are so many other things to spend money on. I would instead add more rattan like your blinds and lampshades. Wishing your husband restfulness and tranquility during his illness. Good luck!

Thank you all for your kind words. It's always fun to show our Before & After project pics here. You get inspired and work so hard creating something new. It's nice to be able to share it . . . even if the end results don't end up in your home (LOL)! Oakley: Haha!! I don't think DD is going to want to give up all of her new (old) furniture and decs to move back into a shared, already-furnished bedroom at her sorority house next year when it's finally redone. She'll be a senior then and is already loving her home only a couple of blocks from campus. Although she definitely IS missing having someone else plan, shop for and cook all the meals (LOL)! The wall's of DD's room were already painted that color by the previous tenant and I don't have a clue what the brand name or color of it is. Sorry. Is your son going to OU? I agree, decorating a son's place is (usually) a lot less fun than decorating a daughter's. My own son's place made me cringe during his six years at OU! Arcy: I LOVE your DD's headboard. How beautiful!!! The fabric is wonderful and looks beautiful with that dark wood. This is a fun age for our daughters, isn't it? Jake: that sounds a lot like my son's rooms when he was in college. Yaya: yes, it drove me to distraction not to be able to do much of anything while my hands were healing. Although I've developed significant arthritis in both hands as a result of the surgery, the fracture and the subsequent long immobilization periods, I love being able to work with them again! Patty: DD was seven? My goodness, it HAS been a long time, hasn't it? Her desk color? Yes, It wouldn't have been my choice, but she does love it and, yes, she can paint it again someday if the mood strikes her. (Shudder) That desk (and all of it's drawers and cubbies) was very tedious and hard to paint. I wouldn't want to do that one again ever! What fun to be able to do your GD's bedroom! You'll have to share that with us when you finish it. Well, thank you all again for allowing me to share my Summer's decorating projects. DH & I have just started redoing his study yesterday. Wow! Talk about awe-inspiring! You all have done incredible jobs at transforming something regular into something spectacular! I can't stop scrolling back up and starting over again looking at these before and afters. Thank you. Each of you who posted pictures, thank you! Not one of my inside projects are close enough to finished for me to post photos. If I posted pictures now of inside projects, you all wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Before and During. lol Are outdoor areas OK to post here? I ask because we got sidebar'd from a couple indoor projects and started outside. The outside is much further along than the inside--and I have obvious before and afters. I'm scolling back up again -- gotta get me another fix of all your wonderful projects.

OMG, my heart skipped a beat seeing your lovely work. When I saw the nightstand in an earlier post I fell in love with it.

Would you mind poking around inside the drawers or on the back or bottom and see if there are any names or marks indicating who makes that beauty?

There was ONE names stamped on the back of one of the
night stands. Dixie. Look what I just found! lol

I didn't "strip" the furniture totally. I just used
Formby's furniture refinisher. It took the top coat off
and also that awful wood toner that so many manufacturers of
mid to low quality furniture used. the used the
wood toner because they often
used up to 4 different woods for one piece. Here there were
possibly 3 different woods, 2 for sure, hence the black
satin paint on the base,legs and apron of the top.

I WAS going to use just an oil to finish, but because I did
not strip it, I knew oil wouldn't be absorbed enough, so
I just used a minwax poly finish in satin that you rub on. You do sand in between coats of that.
It looks like they have been finished with a hand rubbed
oil.

three down, one to go! lol

That's a very cool mid century modern look. I have had very good luck wih the minwax gel stain.
