tonight!!!

DD has invited some friends over for dinner to celebrate the cat's birthday. Considering she's a Himalayan, and their average lifespan is 12-13 years, it IS quite a milestone that our little girl is 20 today!!! She's such a cute, daintly little thing--never weighed more than 6 pounds. And she just loves junk--gets a squirt of whipped cream every evening, always expects to help us if we're eating anything with tomatoes, pineapple, oranges, or dairy products like cream cheese, cream sauce (she loves creamed dried beef), ice cream.

So I had to come up with a dinner that encompassed her favs. We're having Taco pizza (that covers tomatoes, cheese, chicken, sour cream); pineapple, devilled eggs (she likes them, too). Chips and salsa. And make your own sundaes for dessert, with an Orange Angelfood cake.

Went all out--found some cute kitty party invites, decorations with kittens on them, Hello Kitty Plates. Even found some cute little pet frames for favors.

Now, understand, DD doesn't live home any more--somehow, SHE's giving the party, and MOM's footing the bill and making the food--LOL!

Anyway--to 'our girl'--thanks for letting us share the past 20 years with you, the Happiest of Birthdays, and let's do this again next year!

I remember reading about your birthday girl in another thread, glad to hear she's getting a big party! 20yrs. is quite the milestone indeed. What is her name? Any pics? maybe after the party you can post some.

One thing to consider is the proportion of your total wealth that your house represents. Does the bank own the greatest portion? If so, can you cover that easily? Will the cost of a new kitchen set you back if life gets weird and you have to sell immediately? Since you're talking Perlick, you may be in the category of people who aren't worried about the price they get if they have to sell their houses in an emergency. If that's true, go ahead if it makes sense to you. If not, you'll be better off with a recognizably shaped fridge. Some people do use only undercounter refrigeration, but that tends to be in high design, minimalist spaces, where convention is out the window anyway. Perlick is known for being quiet. I have Marvel, which is not quiet. Not bad for a working kitchen, but not quiet. I don't know about the other brands, but you can stand up most bottles of wine, even opened, and big pop bottles, in the bottom drawer. Some brands have much shallower drawers. I actually think you could manage for two people, no entertaining, no buying a week's worth at a time, in four drawers/48", especially if you live where you can keep fruit and root vegetables (onions, potatoes, carrots, etc.) out of the fridge. That depends on the configuration, however. Will at least one drawer be a freezer? Two? I'm not sure that 24" is enough for refrigeration. If you go through enough chilled beverages to need a separate unit in the dining room (other than wine storage, or similar), you probably can't make it on just the 48". Also, keep in mind that you'll have to stack things, and there will be a lot of shifting things around to find them. Plus, heavy goes on the bottom. Example: Recently, I made a large dish of enchiladas. They don't do as well in containers, so I covered the baking dish and put it on the bottom of a drawer. I also bought bought vegetables to make soup, so had celery, leeks and carrots on top of it, which had to be shifted to get the dish out to put together lunch then shifted to put it back. There are some bottles of ale in the bottom drawer. Vegetables live on top of them. Stuff like that. It's fine for my secondary fridge, which is used for transitioning projects, ale, and stuff I need at the stove. It could get really old if that's all there were, however. I love my fridge drawers, but I also love the glass shelves and great lighting in my Miele all fridge that allow me to see and get at everything easily. The people who have done it are happy enough with it, but, again, they tend to be style first kinds of people. It's a no-go for function first.

I'm assuming you're picking the girls up right after school. Would you rather let them go home & come over around 6 p.m. to give them time to decompress from their day at school? Just an idea, if the geographial logistics aren't impossible. I wouldn't get that hung up on having activities planned. Girls that age like unstructured play & to visit with each other in a relaxed atmosphere. You can let your daughter pick out a couple of videos @ the rental store that they can watch in the evening. Manicures are fun. Get out the plastic cover for the table & get small bottles of polish & let them do their nails. One game that my DD & her friends have always liked is the "rollers & cold cream" game. They have to completely roll their hair up in 6 sponge rollers & put cold cream on their faces. Whoever gets done first wins. I'd order Pizza in. There's something special about ordering & waiting for it to come. Sounds like fun! My daughter is having a sleepover in 2 weeks (she's 12). I think they're planning on chalking & forking boys houses & probably making crank phone calls. OH, to have a 9 year old again! Have fun!

It's our regular potluck! Don't have room in my itty bitty condo, so had to rent the clubhouse. It's really pretty. Spent 2 1/2 hours this afternoon getting it all doodied up for tomorrow. T'will be fun! tee hee we sipped on peach spritzers, which we added peach schnapps to :o) while we merrily worked.

You must post pictures. To have a pet in your life for twenty years is amazing.
Our Golden Retreiver passed away at a fifteen. Basically our daughter grew up with this one dog as your daughter did with yours.

Happy birthday to your cat! We have a cat that will be 20 the end of May.. we've had her since the day she was born (her mama was our first cat). Ours is a tiny thing too.. maybe 4 lbs? Perhaps that is a factor in their long lives?

my pound kitty lived to age 21, and he was a good size beastie...he shared a lot of things with me..a divorce, remarriage, 4 kids, and 3 major moves...

Thanks, all. Lex had a wonderful time, everyone made a fuss over her, and she got lots of treats. The people enjoyed the food, as well. Nice evening.

No photos, unfortunately, my camera and computer haven't been on speaking terms for a while. Not sure why, but guess it's time for a new camera.

I'm just still floored, that a delicate little thing like her has made it this long--we've never had a cat live to this age before. Go Lexi, and may you enjoy 20 more years!

Oh, she hasn't been yet. Our other cat was a seasoned travellor when we adopted her, she's been down with us several times and loves it.

Lex hates riding in the car, and has never been more than 2 miles from our front door (she was born about 2 miles away in one direction and her vet is about 1.5 miles in the other). I'm going to wait until we actually move, and take her down just the one time. Am truly dreading putting her through that. But will be sure there's plenty of her favorite treat on hand when we arrive!

Sounds to me like she'll need a Homecoming party then. Then she's sure to feel welcome. I guess you'll be looking for a new vet.

We had a great cat when I was still a kid. She LOVED left over green beans and cornbread. In fact, she'd growl the entire time she was eating them. I always assumed she knew they were people foods and she was warning us not to reclaim what she was clearly enjoying.
