Well, I must admit that your SZ sure preserves "Horse Feathers" well, and it is kind of you to share your "More than adequate supply of same, with those of us here In GW! SZ mentions as one of 3 things needed to "keep food fresh" is precise temp control and they mention their +/1 degree F~~~~~well that's just half as good as the JA which is +/- 0.5 F. One can not control the temps of the various compartments, (meat, veggie & Chrisper) in the SZ as they can with the JA, (at least my model of JA), and in fact Consumer Reports mentioned that fact, as other fridges do have that capability besides my JA. CR also mentioned that the SZ is more noisy than some other fridges, (maybe that goes along with the horse feathers)? I grow my own boysenberries, and they keep very well in my JA fridge. The JA fridge3 has the "Climatezone" storage has automatic humidity control which does not require a $50 filter that must be changed every year (a la SZ). My JA also has "Built in" diagnostics. It checks every fan, thermistor, defrost sensors, compressor speeds, etc etc, sooooo if I ever do have a problem, I can "Nail it down" to which part is giving problems and not call a repair company to first "come out, look see", then make a guess as to what part is needed, then order the part and then come back. Well, It used to be SZ was , as you posted, "in a class of its own"~~~~but that was "Pricewise ONLY"~~~~now the other fridges have caught up with SZ's prices, as I posted here, probably round 7 years ago, ~~~so now folks hafta pay thru the nose on just about any built in fridge, thanks to SZ! Each of the DWs I have been able to select has been what I consider upper mid-level -- something below the top of the line but with good insulation and washing features. The last two were a KA and my current pair of Bosch and each was one or two notches below their top of the line ($700-900)-- which is a big step from a Miele. I couldn't go to something less on the DW because my experience with mid to lower end models has been a lot more noise and less cleaning. I'd rather just build in a pull out drying rack and drip pan than go back to those, but I don't need a Miele and sure wasn't ready to do a pair! On the fridge, I have mixed feelings. I love my Thermador columns. It is above most of our neighborhood (there may be a couple other built-ins but I'm only thinking of one right now). We just took delivery of an LG bottom freezer for our utility room Saturday and I am moving things into it. To assure delivery in time to get our rebates and because the sale prices were so good, we went to the stainless finish. It looks great and I could see it as a primary fridge for most kitchens. The use of space is very different and you tend to forget how deep freestanding fridges can be. The built-ins make everything so much easier to see and access. I could go back, but I'd have to be diligent about the use and organization of the deeper fridge and remember to check behind things where I don't have to so much now. Going to a CD would be less of an adjustment. I have gone backwards on cooktops twice -- both with plans of changing them out that didn't happen very quickly. I hated the cooktops, but I have learned that if there is enough heat to cook, you can adjust.

@Aglitter and @megs1030 - thank you for your feedback! This is a remodel, not a new build. It is a pretty busy kitchen and has been even more so with everyone working and schooling at home! I have 3 teens who do a lot of smoothie-making and microwaving and toaster-ovening. So it would be nice for them to have the main fridge and freezer near the kitchen table end of the kitchen (and out of my prep zone). However, I have read so many of the layout experts on here recommend that the fridge not be too far from the prep zone. So this combo unit seems like a good way to deal with that concern. It could be used for veggies, ingredients and sauces used only in cooking (broth, herbs, soy sauce, worcestershire), raw meat or seafood that is defrosting for the next dinner, etc. The main fridge and freezer would have snacks, condiments, all beverages, leftovers, frozen smoothie ingredients, frozen waffles, french fries, ice cream, etc. I have been hesitant about posting my layout ideas here because certain folks are so dismissive and their only advice is "get a KD." The only plans I have at this point are my own preliminary ideas because I want to work with a specific KD on this project and she is not going to be available for a couple of months due to some personal issues. I am happy to wait for her, because she is that good. In the meantime, she has given me a little "homework" of researching the appliances and starting some preliminary thinking about my wish list and layout. Once she is available, we will be able to get together and hammer out the details. Until then, I've been trying to gather my thoughts and ideas and start thinking through the many options. Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and post some of my layout ideas and try my best to not let the house kitchen bullies upset me. ;)

@Sammy I do not have the space for 48" If I could I would, but I am already giving up a little cabinet storage for a built in and a wine fridge in the kitchen as well. it is either a 42 built in or the standard 36" which i would do counter depth as I do not want to lose storage from my current capacity which is a 36" counter depth.
