Exterior Photoshop Help?

Would a photoshopper mind helping a girl out? I'm having some issues with exterior color scheme. I was originally going to do white siding, black roof, black shutters and a red door. But, now I'm rethinking. The constants will be the black roof and white siding, as they are already finished. The variables are the shutters and front doors. Your help is much appreciated!

Option #1 - black shutters and red door.

Option #1A - Dark grey shutters and red door.

Option #2 - Dark grey shutters and eggplant door.

Option #3 - Dark grey shutters and deep blue door.

Here is the house, which now is almost finished, and has columns on the front (as of yesterday!) I really need to get an updated picture!

I know you'll get several different opinions, but I love the red door. I'm thinking the dark gray shutters would be better than the black, but it would definitely help to see it.

I am sorry but I can't do photoshop.

But, did want to tell you - I was in the "fancy part" of town yesterday (they won't even let you put a For Sale sign in the yard!!)

Anyways, passed a gorgeous house. Black roof - dark gray shutters - and red door. Not bright red but about the color you showed above. Black lanterns by the door. Beautiful combination - especially with all the big trees and mature landscaping - all being green. Black shutters would be the expected color but the dark gray/pewter shutters were gorgeous with the white house.

Yep, now I read faux wood stain. I would be very hesitant to do this unless the doors are exposed to very little sun. It's one thing to re-paint sun-faded doors, another to repeat the whole faux job. I've seen banisters done beautifully, but large garage doors could be very tricky to do well. MCM is definitely not my thing. Maybe'cuz mid-century still sounds like the 1800's to me. MCM is the period of my childhood!! (Yikes:>)..and my childhood home looked pretty much as mine does now...tradional. Agree that lots of lush, green landscaping would do wonders as well.

I was about to suggest the trellis/arbor over the garage door. Other ideas might be something in the bare spot at the front of the corner bed--such as a copper obelisk, a large rock, or an appropriately sized fountain. Another idea for the yard is to combine two or more of the trees by surrounding them with a bed--here in Georgia we would put azaleas in it. You would put whatever is suitable in your area. On the left edge of the picture it looks like there are two trees close together where you could do that. You could do the same thing to the 3 trees on the left of the walk to the front door. With low shrubs and annual color it would highlight the path to the front door. I wouldn't necessarily do both beds. Do you have a picture from further back? It might help to see it from the street. Your house is a gorgeous, classical, balanced, symetrical style, & I'd think it will look best with colors that are in keeping with that image...even if you have to think a while to figure out what to use! The brick & wrought iron & the very size of it give it weight, so you need colors with "weight" so that they look well-matched with the rest of the house, & since the brick has depth & texture, you want simplicity. Paint the downspouts as close to the brick color as possible to camouflage them. I like the way the house looks now, as far as matching & contrast, so I'd experiment with maybe charcoal gray or British racing green (deepest green in the universe, with a little black mixed in) for the shutters, & spanking white for columns & window trim. I like the red door, but if you want a change, maybe stain the door a walnut color & use the same color on the area above the porch. That combination might give the house a "lodge" kind of atmosphere... or you could go spanking white on everything but the door & use a deep Chinese laquer red on it. Whatever you do, it's a beautiful house, & you'll have a lot of fun working on it!

Having gone through the process of picking exterior colors, I agree with the above poster that you must get sample pots and try the colors outside at your house. Sample boards work - I used old boards and leftover pieces of drywall - because then you can walk around the house with them. I was amazed at how different a color looked in the front of my house versus the back. If the store where you plan to buy the paint does not offer the sample pots, Home Depot can make up sample pots in colors from other companies. You then have to test it against your paint chip, but it is amazing how well their computer is able to match a color. Do not try to save money by not testing your colors.

Thanks for the responses! It's been pretty photoshop heavy here these days, so I might just pick a color and stop agonizing!!

kbmash, I'm sorry I haven't been able to help sooner. You're right, many requests lately. I did try a couple things this morning but having lots of trouble for a few reasons. Your photo is so very far away that it makes it hard to put in details. Also, when you are asking for a very specific color, it's hard. I tried to just slice out a portion of the BM raintree sample and make it look like shutters but it comes across green on my monitor.

Do you happen to have a closer photo? That might help a little. Plus I'd love to see how those columns came out!

Thanks lindy and others! It's so hard not having email at home!

I am going home at lunch to agonize a bit more over my DR colors, so I'll take a picture then!

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I know it is photoshop crazy these days! Technology is amazing!
