Chocolate Sour Cream Cake

Glenda put this recipe on here last week and I tried it last night, it is great. As she said it's very moist and is the right size for DH and me. We can't eat a whole cake. The last few I've made, the neighbors have had to finish up.

Anyway, thank you Glenda for that recipe.

I finished up the last two pieces last night.

Such an easy recipe and you are right, so very moist.

Chocolate sour cream cake
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 egg
Instructions
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray.
2.In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; beat until smooth. Pour batter into baking dish.
3.Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool, then cut into squares.

Top with whipped cream, frosting of choice, or dust with confectionate sugar.

I dusted with confectionate sugar, when it had completely cooled but the moistness from the cake dissolved it.

Served it with cool whip.

If we can have a sour cream angel cake, why not sour cream & *chocolate* angel cake? Hmm... now that I think of it, that does sound good with the cinnamon swirl. Build it up as with a torte, putting luscious cherries between the layers. Pidge - one of the best things about cooking in VR is that there are no calories, therefore, no weight gain. Thank goodness.

Glenda, I'm going to have to fix your's. Does icing go on top? Here's our local recipe. Dump Cake. In 9 x 13 cake pan, layer in order: 1 can (I use 2) pie filling. Cherry, Apple & Blueberry are the best. 1 med. can crushed pineapple. I drain some of the juice. Dump 1 dry yellow cake mix on top. Slice 2 sticks butter and lay over cake mix. Bake for 1hr 20min. at 325. Take out of oven & sprinkle chopped nuts and coconut on top. Bake additional 10 min. until the nuts and coconut are browned. The nuts and coconut are optional, so if you don't use those, keep baking the cake that same extra 10 minutes.

Well, I posted but it apparently got lost. Thanks for the tea cake recipe, Gaz. I will be baking it today for our son's arrival tomorrow. It will give us something to snack on over the long weekend visit. I don't have any "white" raisins, but I do have currants and will use them for their light flavor. Lo and behold, I found some golden raisins I forgot I had, so I baked the cake using soured 1% and it is cooling now. Not so sure I like the flour mixture on top as the flour doesn't cook into the cake. Maybe I should just save 2 tablespoons of both of the sugars and sprinkle that on top with the cinnamon.

Put this one on your "to make" list. Made this, and DIL cannot stop raving over it. Used to make long time ago, and now it's regaining its popularity with the virus. this is NOT the one hallngarden makes, I'm just sharing this one with her in case she wants to try it. Depression Cake 1½ cups All-purpose flour ¼ cup Cocoa powder 1 cup Granulated sugar 1 tsp Baking soda ½ tsp Salt 1 tbsp White vinegar 1 tsp Vanilla extract 5 tbsp Vegetable oil 1 cup Water In a square cake pan (Dimensions: 8x8- Ungreased), add flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, salt and whisk everything together. Use your finger to make 2 small holes and 1 large hole in this dry flour mixture. Pour vinegar and vanilla extract in the small holes. Pour oil in the large hole. Pour water over everything. Mix everything together until just combined. Don't worry if you have some lumps. Just don't over-mix or else you will end up with a rubbery cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until an toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Perfect timing! I was just on allrecipes looking for a chocolate cake recipe. I will try this one. Glenda thanks for sharing the recipe and thanks to Shirley for posting her results. I look forward to making it soon.

I did add a tsp of vanilla, just cause.

Glenda, thanks for telling me about the vanilla. I will add it as I do like that in my baked cakes and cookies. Just made a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies and added banana to them because I had a couple that were overripe. They came out really tasty.
