I like it but think more a a bell shape would be nice. I think that lamp is gorgeous and would look great with more curves on the shade.

I like the color...but....think a bell shaped one with tucked seams down it in rows would give it a classier look.

I too think this shade is alright but don't that it's "the one". The lamp shade selection is stores is pitiful IMO.

Nicole - Thanks for the link. I like that shade. I don't think I've seen any in the stores big enough though. That or they weren't the right color or texture. I may have to keep searching.

I agree with the bell shape shade, Just enough curves and made of cream color silk. seems like the first one you showed pics of was just to simple for such a beautiful lamp. Try thinking of maybe the year this type of lamp was used and try to use a shade from that time frame.. I do not like the second shade you showed that you bought first and said it did not cut it.. I agree with you there.. that one almost looks to short for the lamp as does the first one.. I like the bell shape one that one of the posters posted a pic of .. seems more like what would go good with your lamp. But then that is just my thoughts.

Am I on the right path with the bronzish color? The color of the latest one is actually like a champagne instead of bronze.

Kmcg - I never saw that site before. Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm not sure I'm willing to order a shade online at this point because odds are it will be too small or too this, too that. I ordered a black shade online for my other brass lamp in the LR and I'm pretty sure it's a little too small (and honestly not the right shape) now that I've looked at it awhile. I can't send it back anymore. Plus once the plastic was removed I would've had to pay a 30% restocking fee + the shipping. The shade wasn't cheap so for now it has to stay but it bugs me every time I look at it.

I think the bell shape is very pretty but would try to match the lighter color of the lamp base when buying the shade. The color looks just a little too dark on the one you're trying to decide about. By the way, your table is absolutely gorgeous.

I like the lampshade you posted. You don't need anymore embelishment. You need simplicity to complement the curvaceous and glitz of your decor. You know your room and you know what you like. Get it.

There's one lamp store I have yet to go to and I'm going to make a point next week tackle that. I'll drag the lamp along. The white of the lamp is hard to match. The small offwhite looking shade actually looked somewhat yellow IRL next to it and not in a good way. Someone had suggested bronze because the top and bottom of the middle part is that color. I think if I could find a white to match I could pull the color off.

I don't completely dislike the one I bought but it's just OK for me at the moment. Don't love it. I have yet to see it in full blown daylight. I'm curious to see how the color looks. I think I'm going to look at it over the weekend and hit up the other lamp store next week.

I agree with Patricia, I like the one you posted a lot.
The proportion is right , the color is perfect ; I like the fact that it's not curved, it lets the lamp's ornamentation stand out.

The shade sits too high. Even if it's the correct placement, due to the crystals, it looks too high.

Maybe 3D can reduce her pic for a more distant look at the bell shape. How it fits overall is hard to see that close up.

My shade I had bought at a lampshade store in Wauwatosa WI when I lived there. I think the store ended upo moving somewhere. I think the shape is the thing to look for. See also if the store has catalogs to order from. I brought my lamp into the store to try shades on. The color is an off white not yellowy at all like the picture shows. Thanks.

Re shorter harp and shape of shade, it's also important that the hot bulb not be too close to the shade. That would be a fire hazard.

I don't know how far the bulb is supposed to sit away from the shade, though.

Shee, In order to find the right size shade for your lamp, measure the lamp height from the bottom up to the socket. (Not including the harp). The bottom diameter of your shade should measure within 2" of the height. Here is a link that explains how to find the right size shade for a lamp.

I am liking the idea of a drum shade. The idea reminds me of the crystal chandeliers under the drum shade. I forget who has one- and the drum shade just makes it. The crystals on your lamp will look good dripping from a drum shade.

Just doesn't look right, though the exposed heart-shaped ironwork is nice. Bad proportion of shade to lamp.

I am in the minority-- I like the shade. The curved shade is too much with the lamp and takes attention away from the table. I prefer the shorter harp too.

I think I remember seeing a large drum shade where I bought that one. At lunch I'm going to head over and see. I think it was a different textured material though. Like a basket type.. is the only words that are coming to mind. It's not silk. Wonder if the material of the shade will look funny with the lamp.

sheesharee, I think I know what you mean, it's a woven material on the shade. I doubt that would go with your lamp.

Gumps has a lamp that reminds me of yours. The shade is a drum, but bowed in slightly in the middle.

One of the tricky things about shades is that often the shade is the high ticket item of the lamp and shade pair. This is true even when they are new, but if bought together, the assumption is the base cost a lot more than the shade. It becomes particularly painful when trying to replace an old shade. I just replaced shades for a client that the cheapest I could find that was appropriate was $150 x 2 (delivered, they are also expensive to ship). The lamp bases were dirty and needed to be rewired so they were a relative bargain but the "total lamp" still ended up to be $200+ each, most of the money in the shade.
