Personally I like them, they add nice texture to the room. But it's also hard to tell how they lay....maybe in person they don't look as good? But from the pictures they look fine, I like them.

Did you install them or did an installer come to your house? If an installer, then have them come back to fix the "lay". If they can't, then you might have recourse for compensation.

Uh oh, when you mentioned Smith and Noble I was afraid of this. They are not dependable when it comes to quality. As you have seen, you like one of their products and so you ordered something else. Buyer beware with this company.

@andee- An installer came to the house. I showed him my concerns when he was here and he said you just have to play around with the strings until they are even. But i keep doing that and they won't even out. Also, I just feel like they are too heavy for the string to hold. i am waiting for the whole thing to come tumbling down. They also seem like they are too "narrow" as they don't reach the sides of the window. I emailed the "designer" who came out to tell her my dissatisfaction with the product so waiting to hear back from her. but she screwed up. I wish I didn't need shades at all, but the two windows she mis-measured have glaring sunlight at sunset.. Do you think wood slat shades or the silhouettes will look better here in white? I spent a fortune on these treatments, so needless to say I am pretty bummed!

In the picture they look very nice. But, if you're not happy, then you're not happy. I would definitely look to return if possible. I originally thought that white wood blinds would look good when you originally posted, but I do like the texture that these add in the 1st picture.

I only ordered once from Smith and Noble. Just wanted to say that the quality of what I got (fabric roman shades) was very good. Not sure if their quality changed (mine were bought a long time ago), or different products are different. Just wanted to give my experience with this company since someone above said their quality was not good.

The more I am in the room with them today, I am liking them better- I am just afraid they are too heavy for the strings-I seem to have figured out how to get them even- here is another picture of them.. Unfortunately, they are a little darker (with the light filtering shade on them ) than I had hoped- maybe that is why they seem to heavy?

Inside mount shades are always made about a quarter inch narrower than the window, so they look like they were made properly. I think that they look great, but of course I don't know what the quality is like.

I may have jumped the gun earlier in the day- I have lived with NO window treatments for two years.. So I think it was more of a shock to see something on the windows that provoked my discontent with them.

They just seem heavy to me, but that must be normal with woven shades.the quality isn't terrible other than that fact and unless i really play with them getting them even
Perhaps if all the treatments were in, I would get a better read on how I feel about them-

When you say they seem heavy, do you mean physical weight (they weigh a lot) or visual weight (they really pull your eye)... or both?

The gap on the sides doesn't look abnormally large. You don't want them butting right up against your window casing b/c that will catch them up when raised/lowered. If the light really bothers you, you can add a very small piece of trim in front of the blinds to sort of cover the gap. I've seen that done a few times. I don't think it's necessary, but the people who've done it seemed happy with it.

I think to answer your question- both physically and visually.
Physically b/c i am afraid every time I pull the string to straighten them out they are going to come tumbling down- the material almost seems to heavy for the strings to handle. On my pho=wood blinds in the rest of the house, there are 4 strings/blind probably for this same reason.
Visually, when I push them all the way up so as not to block the view of the woods behind the house, they seem too heavy and bunched up.
The designer did get back to me and is going to be in touch with me to come look at the treatments. Not that I necessarily value her opinion right now b/c she did encourage me to get the light filter which in my complete UNPROFESSIONAL opinion is adding a bit of weight to the shades and may not necessarily be needed... so i guess. stay tuned....

Do they have a warranty? So if the cords break in a few months, they would be covered?

I like that they are close to the color of the walls, but add texture. I think they look great.

Thanks Jill and Terriks- Once the other two are up the room will feel more finished (if they don't come tumbling first). My DH thinks i am being overly-picky and thinks the reason the strings feel like they can't support the weight is because they are super long and just hanging (as you can see in one of the pic. above.. When the installer comes out to do the remaining two that are missing, I will ask him to maybe put one of those hooks on the side..

gillylily, I think they look pretty! Is there any way the installer can shorten the strings? Do they need to be that long? Do you have to mess with the shades every time you raise them up?

Just a tip.....you should ask, on the replacement order, if they offer continuous cord loops.
