Nope. It isn't a contact killer. It's a bacteria which, when the caterpillars feed on foliage, kills them. Just spray entire plant(including undersides of leaves). If infestation is bad, spray on a weekly schedule for a couple weeks and then on a 2 week schedule after that. Kevin

Update on the egg explosion: My thanks to Dan and Sandy, who have kindly offered to take some of the eggs. It seems there are few host plants in my area because mama pipevine(s) continue to lay more and more eggs, even though there are few leaves to feed the little cats once they hatch. If I pinch off the vines to remove the eggs, I'll quickly have no vines, which will defeat the purpose of growing them. Can I safely remove the eggs without pinching off the vines to which they're attached? What if the eggs hatch while in route to a foster home? I sent some to Sherry and although they arrived safely, Sherry reported the leaves on the vine were crispy. I did wrap the cutting end in a plastic baggie with moisture but it didn't keep the leaves from drying out. I've ordered six more vines, which should be here the end of this week, but of course, they will take a while to settle in and begin growing, assuming they will even grow much this year. Yesterday I transplanted my little Aristolochia fimbriata - White Veined Hardy Dutchman's Pipevine plants I started from seed this year and there's already eggs on those tiny plants this morning! I fought varmints in my massive blackberry garden to the point where i built a cage 8 ft high by 40 feet totally enclosed sauirrels would crawl all over the cage and look in longingly, as the chipmunks ate my strawberries,,,,so i resorted to extreme measures on the ”cute” chipmunks eradciation you dont sound like a moustrap type. but you INSPIRED me to get priactive on my GIANT fig tree in Palm Springs …..will feed the birds elsewhere but we aee bats!

talk with your county extension and/or Ag office... when i had them licking off PB .. i resorted to stripping the paper off a twist tie... filing down a peanut/almond ... and wiring it to the trap ... the filing to give the wire a way to grab it ... you might also put the PB .. on the UNDERSIDE of the release ... and mush it into the crevice ... so they have to work a bit harder ... to get it all ... it never fails to amaze me.. how they get it 99% clean.. and ... well you know the rest .... also.. you need a time perspective ... if this takes all summer.. so be it ... ken
