Galvanized Shower head stub?

Hi,

Our plumber, who did the rough in for our new shower, put galvanized pipe stubs coming out of the copper shower riser in the wall. I know all the other piping for the rough in from the main on up is copper, I watched him install it. So my question is is why is there a 4 inch galvanized stub coming out of the copper connector in the wall? Is it a 'placeholder' that I should take out and replace with the actual male threaded pipe that the shower head connects to?

For various reasons we cannot ask the plumber why he did it, and I know he did just about everything else correctly, so I am curious as to what to do with this particular oddity.
