Help! How to safely remove lacquer spray from marble?
Comments (8)laurenjean and paintguy- It''s true that lacquer thinner is a powerful solvent, but 1: If the marble is sealed, all the overspray should be on top of the sealer and the razor blade should remove all of it overspray, making a wipe with lacquer thinner unnecessary. 2. If there is no sealer, a wipe with lacquer thinner shouldn't hurt marble. (Marble is typically damaged by acid compounds, like lemon juice, or alkalis, like drain cleaner. If one has concerns, you could test the thinner on a marble scrap or a small unnoticeable area. However, if it's real marble, and not some man-made composite, there should not be an issue.) 3, Sealer can be reapplied in any case...it's not like trying to match a stain....See MoreHow to remove silicone residue from Tile and Marble
Comments (3)Vinegar, WD-40 or Alcohol will make it easier to remove but you always need to use a razor blade and just scrape it. Try to get the most of it off with the blade and then use a paper towel with some vinegar to rub off the tiny fragments. A vacuum helps to remove the tiny particles....See MoreHow to remove these marks from cultured marble countertop?
Comments (10)I think these have come with use over the 20 years these countertops have been around. They are yellow discoloration marks in quite a few places. Then it is probably time to replace them. No way to know if those are burn marks, rust stains or chemicals from personal care items. I would try Bar Keeper's Friend or a stronger phosphoric acid cleaner (those used for removing hard water deposits.) If those don't do anything, then you can rule out rust....See MoreRemove old Mop n Glo from oak floor & marble floor with Oreck Orbiter
Comments (19)So is lacquer better or worse than polyurethane? I know the guy used lacquer on my cabinets. When we had to refinish one of the old bathroom cabinets he told us what he used. Benjamin Moore said only 2 states carry it, Oklahoma and Texas. That tells me it should NOT be used. It is banned in other states. It sounds like I am ready to sand? I can quit trying to get the glossy parts off where the cracks are. (Where the 2 planks meet.) They will just sand off? I moved the TV cabinet away from the wall. That wall used to have a built in entertainment center with doors and drawers, but my TV was wider, so we removed the entertainment center. We found the original flooring had not been lacquered or polyurethane where the old cabinets had been. We can see that the wood turned more yellow and darker in the rest of the room. The room is huge and includes the kitchen. 42' x 28' plus 12' x 4' hallway. I am sanding around the perimeter first except for the hall and kitchen area. Then I will move the aquarium, couches, and TV cabinet back in place against the walls. They are all sitting on soft sliders so they will not scratch the floor. Then I can sand the rest of the floor. I have no place to move the furniture so it will have to be done in sections. Once the sanding is finished and the floor is clean, I don't know if I can finish the floor in sections. Can that be done? Thanks....See More- 11 years ago
