Removing paint from Marble
Comments (31)I have to repeat the DO NOT USE GOO GONE or GOOF OFF. They are very oily and will only create a new problem. You could test baking soda, but I have used Bar Keeper's Friend on marble and not had any damage. Bon Ami would probably be good too, but I have not tried it. I would not use Comet or any other abrasive cleanser. Polish wet and lightly. A nylon scrubbie or a soft brush may help you get into the tiny pockets that are probably the reason the stone is holding onto the paint. If you are dealing with honed marble that wasn't sealed, there is probably a degree of etching there that may have the surface a bit less smooth than it would otherwise be. If you use a fine sand paper, you will buff that rougher surface back down (you might want to let it dry well and then seal it at that point). As pointed out above, marble has been left to the elements over the centuries, walked on for centuries and probably seen every abuse between use on counters, floors and exteriors. It is reactive, but not entirely delicate. This post was edited by lascatx on Sat, Mar 30, 13 at 13:46...See MoreHelp! How do you remove dark caulk from tile surface???

Comments (6)I'm a retired floorman for over 40 years experience and went to a union school to learn the trade. Installers were told to take up asbestos tile and sheet vinyl with asbestos back years ago because they did not know of any danger so I sanded it down with a drum sander or took up 9 x 9 tile but in the 80's we were told it was dangerous so by law we could not do it. Wetting it down is part of the process to remove with masks and proper disposal. As far as danger in your house even if the tile glue which is black cut back had asbestos in it, if overlay-ed with plywood and new flooring is okay because it is then concealed and there is no harm to you. Years ago FHA required asbestos had to be used because it was fire retardant would not burn but melt. I sanded it for years and still not developed Mesothelioma Cancer....See MoreSome tips for spraying lacquer
Comments (14)Yeah, I just spoke with a Sherwin rep. He basically told me that none of their spray products would be an option for me for couple of reasons. He said he can't even sell me the pre-cat hi bild lacquer as it requires an actual shop for it to be sprayed in. Said you can't use this stuff outside in your driveway or back yard except maybe if you're living out in a rural area. He said if a neighbor complained it could lead to some serious issues. He also said you need a lot more psi than my hvlp system is designed for. That includes the waterbased ones as well. Interestingly, the two how-to videos I was referencing both used that pre cat sherwin product in their driveways. in one of them the two guys demoing weren't even wearing masks. I'm going to call Homestead finishing where i purchased the sprayer, as well as finishes for it, way back when....See Morelaurenjean
