Pickled garlic??? Does anyone have a recipe?

One of my friends was talking about this wonderful delightful pickled garlic he ate a few years ago when he was in college. One of his roomies worked part-time at a caterer's and brought home leftovers sometimes, and the pickled garlic was outstanding.

It was served as an appetizer on toothpicks, and it was whole, peeled cloves of garlic and they were purple. It's been a couple of years, and he still raves about it. They were crunchy, not soft, and not hostile like totally raw garlic can be. They were regular size, not elephant garlic cloves.

My friend thought it got it's purple color from being pickled in red wine. He didn't say it was vinegar-y, just soooooo good!

I googled it and found a recipe for Persian Sugar-Pickled Garlic, and a few other recipes, but none of them used red wine.

Does anyone have a recipe for me to try that sounds like it would be "IT" ??

Smiles,

Sooz
