KT member needs your prayers and thoughts..

Many of you will remember Sandie Fix from Florida; she recently told me this,

"I have breast cancer for the second time. I was eight years cancer free, and in January it came back in the opposite breast." (Her surgery is next Tuesday, April 28 at 1:30.)

Sandie gave me permission to post about this and also said,

"I would appreciate all the prayers I can get. Also, I have had two lumpectomies, but not a mastectomy that I will be getting next week, so if there are any at the KT that could give me an idea of what to expect, I would be most grateful. I won't know until after the surgery what treatment they will be giving me. I had radiation with the first lumpectomy and that wasn't too bad, but it was eight years ago so I don't really know what to expect now. One good thing, I will be going to Orlando for the surgery, it is about 30 miles from Titusville, but we have a new cancer center here that is supposed to be wonderful and I will not have to travel to Orlando for treatment."

All special thoughts and prayers will mean so much to our dear Sandie. And if anyone can share their experience and let her know what to expect, please do so.

fourkids, What a very, very kind offer. I will email you if/ when that can happen. They will message me thru my son. Yes Ian is still in Baltimore at Mercy. If you go to telesmaband.com there is a link to donate to Ian. A trust fund has been set up.Or you can also go to the Telesma page to read all about Ian and his progress and the link is there. The band has decided to play without Ian at the Spoutwood Farm May Day Festival in PA. It is May 5 and 6. They had planned on releasing their new album there, and now any proceeds to Telesma will go to the trust fund for Ian. They are asking all who love Ian to come and help them all heal. I hope to go on Sunday. Yesterday he was in a wheelchair outside for a bit,was able to eat a bit of applesauce, and ice chips- his throat is extrememly sore from the weeklong intubation. The chair was uncomfortable for him. Just think, when he was brought to hospital a week ago Friday, they were unable to revive him, but tried once more! Those ED docs and his two friends that gave him CPR immediately- saved his life. like I said before, i am going to get recertified in CPR- even though it has only been a year. Thank you all for your continued prayers!

What a hugely hurtful thing it is to lose a precious child. I pray that you and your loved ones may share good memories of your son during these days which will help to carry you through. Sometimes I think that the boundaries between this life and the next are not as strong as we think ... sometimes it seems to me that we taste of the firstfruits of heaven while we journey through this life. I trust that he is finding a glorious new vista of life opening out before him, so that he can rejoice in not only his present but his future. Thank you for telling me what I know should have happened long ago. My sister and brother-in-law are both lawyers.We haven't wanted to upset Diane right now because of her health.But, we are going to ask Bob to help us get him out of here.Like I said, I don't want them to take them, I just want to know how to get him out.When Ken was in the hospital back in March because of taking to many pain pills, I asked the nurse case worker how I could get him out. She told me that because he was a relative and that I had let him move in, the only way to get him out was to take him to court. That doesn't seem right, and because of mine and Jim's health issues, I didn't go further.You asked me if he had mental or physical issues that would make him encapable to take care of himself. He somehow graduated from HS, has held jobs, only ones that Jim or my Dad got for him, and is not so much in pain from his back that he can't work. Sears let him go because he told them that he could only come back to work if he could work for two hours and be able to sit for 20 minutes when he needed to. The disability that he is getting is from insurance that he is payin #179. a month. It is not Government disability.As far as mental, he is really a filthy person.He doesn't shower, my children came over and tore up the carpet in his room, and painted his room purple, what he wanted. And his room is filthy already.I put his microwave and toaster oven on the porch because it is filthy and I don't want it in my house.Shortly after he moved in,I found bugs in the house so made him pay for an exterminator. He pays that every month.Sorry for venting, but that is about all I have done since he has been making our life even more miserable lately. He told me he is perfectly happy here, isn't leaving, and I can't make him leave. New Years resolution. He will leave here. We have looked into HUD houses, but they do inspections and you have to keep the place clean. So, if he doesn't and once he is out, he is not coming back. My Jim use to be a locksmith and this will be one happy job for him Thanks again, for listening.

dh's cousin just underwent a double mas...she had the lumpetomy almost 5 years ago. she chose not to have reconstructive surgery...
her drs are doing a double course of treatment. chemo for (?) 4 weeks and then a break and then the hard core chemo for about 6 weeks... the kind with side effects...but they're very hopeful as her lymph nodes were clean and ct body scan was clear. i havn't heard if she was able to return to work as of yet. she's in her 50's, good heath otherwise, and a very positive outlook on life in general, which is extremely important...

Hugs and prayers for Sandie.I went through this last august and opted for the bilateral mastectomy,followed by 6 session of chemo,(taxotere and cytoxan)I also opted Not to have reconstruction surgery.Just remember it's all doable.

I finished chemo in feb this year,and my hair started growing back last week.
I'll tell ya,i was more upset about losing my hair,than i was my boobs.But it'a all good now,they've come a long way with treatments,than they had 20 years ago.

Been down this road with my Mom, and know that it can be hearbreaking. My prayers are for a true recovery, from Cancer and the surgery.

I just posted this for Anne's sister, and I'll paste it here.

My sister just finished radiation treatments for her 2nd round of breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy on both of them. Followed by chemo on the first one, (16 yrs ago). The 2nd one was caught very early, and is called breast calcification. It's like little flecks/freckles of it in an area. They did the lumpectomy on it, but the Dr. didn't get the clear margins he wanted, so she had to go back right after Christmas and have more taken out until he was satisfied with the margins.

Also, my daughter chose the mastectomy about 4 years ago, along with the reconstruction at the same time. Hers was breast calcification, and caught very early.

A separate post was made from Sandie, but thought I'd add it here as well along with my thanks to all of you. As a cancer survivor myself, I know the importance of prayers and support.

From Sandie: ""I want to thank all of you for your prayers and concerns and for sharing your experiences. Today will be my last day at the PreSchool for awhile. My kids have kept me grounded, as well as my co-workers, and family and friends. I have to admit that as the time gets closer, I am getting more nervous. But I have put my faith in God and in my surgeon and all of the prayers. So thank you again and God Bless you all."
