One of our own needs your kind thoughts and prayers

Please if you have a moment send a kind thought or prayer out to Dollydolots - there is a huge out of control forestfire in the area she lives in. Her own subdivision has been evacuated since yesterday and overnight the fire has grown and is now out of control. I have no idea where she and her DH are at the moment but the whole area is one big fire. My thoughts and prayers are with you Dolly whereever you are. Budster

OMG!! That is horrible. I will send prayers and good thoughts her way, that her family and her home is spared the terrible effects of this fire.

Yes, I have her address. Not sure what she needs at the moment. I was shocked when she called to hear how bad it was and I wasn't thinking about asking her if she could use anything and she called from the cell phone and was afraid it would run out of juice soon and like I said earlier with the baby and other small children in the home she needs to be able to keep it charged somehow so we cut the conversation very short to the direct this is what is going on right now message, do you mind letting folks know thing to keep it a short as could be so as to NOT run the phone down. I will try calling her back later on in the AM to see if she needs anything at all. I hope I can get through. It is tough being so far away from people we know when things like this happen. Oh Jeanne, how thoughtful of you to think of our son! His unit was deployed to Afghanistan last weekend and it's been very tough for me. Just yesterday we heard that four more brave soldiers had been killed over there and instantly we've leap-frogged into an entirely new kind of life, along with every other parent, family and friend of a service person over there ~ waiting now to find out if our own loved one is ok. If you haven't seen my thread over on the Decorating forum, I'm adding the link below. Last week DH & I won first prize in a local raffle. It was a sports car. We needed to be at a big presentation in the park on Sunday to receive it. This was part of the Blue Star Mothers & Gold Star Mothers event to honor service men and women, and veterans. We ended up donating the car to the Gold Star Mother's building fund, which is an incredibly worthy and much needed thing. You might want to check out the info on it in my (below) thread. I just posted this for Anne's sister, and I'll paste it here. My sister just finished radiation treatments for her 2nd round of breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy on both of them. Followed by chemo on the first one, (16 yrs ago). The 2nd one was caught very early, and is called breast calcification. It's like little flecks/freckles of it in an area. They did the lumpectomy on it, but the Dr. didn't get the clear margins he wanted, so she had to go back right after Christmas and have more taken out until he was satisfied with the margins. Also, my daughter chose the mastectomy about 4 years ago, along with the reconstruction at the same time. Hers was breast calcification, and caught very early. Leslie

Runninginplace. Your post is RIGHT ON!!! It deals with the caregiver. Oakley, you can find a caregiver support group for yourself. Find one online with forums. Caregiver.org is one. Local hospitals have caregiver groups. Also, your county Office for the Aging or your state representative's office has contacts. All these posts are about DH, not YOU! You have to take care of yourself. Find people and info for what you are going through yourself, so you do not get sick, too. Do not make his illness yours. It takes a lot of practice to be able to do that. Yes, do some research and some chores. BUT...Make him be responsible for his illness. If you do it all, he will let you. Take care of you. Do something nice for yourself everyday, even if it's just sitting or listening to music. Keep up with your exercise. Eat right. Talk to friends and go out for fun. Do your hobbies for relaxation and creativity. Take off one day a week from all the research/doctors/worrying, etc. I have been caregiving a sick partner for 10 years. It's hard on the emotions, on your own stress levels, and on the relationship. Take care of yourself and allow (insist on) your DH to be responsible for himself in more ways. My best to you, Oakley. I pray for the brave fire-people can get control of the fire, safely, and pray Dolly, and her neighbors can return to their intact homes, also safely. How so very scary. Please keep us posted, please. Dottie

As of a few moments ago, the television says the fire continues to burn out of control. I do not know where Dolly and her DH are but am hoping for the best. They would have gone when ordered out, that I am assured of. There are health issues as well so I am hoping and praying along with everyone that they are in a safe place and not worrying over belongings and such. Thanks for your support, I'll update later on .

Petaloid - that is the correct fire. Dolly and her DH live in the Glenrosa subdivision. It is still burning away. Budster

So sorry for all threatened by this blaze. And it won't be 'all well' after the fire is out.

Friends in Prescott, AZ lived through a similar fire that hit their new subdivision. Although their home was spared, the aftermath of devastation all around them was terrible. All their beautiful pines eventually died from pine bark beetle infestation.

been thru my fair share when i lived in so ca...it's frightening and i'm assuming very hard to fight since my map shows a ski resort in the general area?

The area is very hot and dry and there is alot of dry forest around which when flames hit burn very quickly. The main highway is closed until it is safer for everyone. At one point it jumped the highway. Thankfully it is close to some lakes where the water bombers and helicopters can fill their buckets. Kelowna is the largest city near it and their sky is thick with smoke. The surrounding area has no more available hotel, motel accommodation as it is all booked with holiday travellers, sports groups etc. I understand traffic was backed up for quite a while. There were alternate routes to by-pass the fire area for travellers but still it is not a good situation for anyone. I am still hoping Dolly and her family are OK - she did have a niece in a town quite close and out of the fire area so I hope her family just packed up the motorhome and are sitting in her niece's driveway. If I hear anything I will post - Budster
