Wow! Found this discussion a year after it was going on and it was very helpful! We're remodeling our kitchen now, it is small (8 X 10), I'm getting new cabs in "cinnamon spice", and a granite counter top that is a speckling of browns, tans, gold-ish colors with black specks (I have no idea what the call it). I have an exposed cement :( chimney stack that we have decided to tile over with sheets of 2 X 2 tumbled white/off white marble. I was really not sure on back splash and we were thinking tile - but I thought of bead board last night and think it will go really well if painted the "off white/pumpkin" Laura Ashley color I found.

I ended up not going with a gloss for the ceiling. Mostly, out of budget concerns (lack of, that is). We are so far along that every penny counts since it has all been ka-ching ka-ching since day 1 and I figure I can always use a gloss when it is time to repaint. Plain bright white ceiling paint in 5 gallon buckets is much cheaper (BM, of course). The only ceiling with any sort of sheen is our bedroom ceiling done in BM Aura Eggshell in a medium purple. The walls will be a very light gray so we wanted a cozy look. Our ceiling in the master has a vault, so we were not worried about closing it in. I'd even consider going semi gloss next time because the eggshell looks so nice. It is funny, but I never imagined sheen being such a big deal until lately when a few have used it on the home decorating forum (esp for their foyer ceilings, in darker colors) and after seeing aokat's here, which I fell for hard. I am working on the trim around windows,doors and the moldings and using Cabinet Coat in a semi gloss and I just love how it shines. I sand between coats, so it is so smooth. The Cabinet Coat levels nicely after application and is so sleek. I am loving working with it and how it looks. HTH

Oh my -- do you have to pick so theoretically? That is, can you get much of the other stuff up and running so that you can see the context a little better, set the tiles up against the counter with the floor in sight and choose *then*? ~one who's expert at delaying choices as long as possible. Speaking of which, it's pulls-time....

Cbreeze, yes moonkat and i have the same, juprana columbo gold. I love the colors in it, especially when light hits it. Annes Arbor, i keep going back to Benjamin Moore colors so i am pretty sure that is what i will be going with. Thanks!! Moonkat99, i am so excited to see the outcome.
