Do you REALLY like your clear glass shower?
Comments (33)Does anyone have pictures of using curtains outside the glass enclosure? Curious how it looks. Has anyone used frosted/ matte privacy film and then removed it because you were in a rental or selling? Curious how long it lasted, did it get dirty or yellow, how did you clean it, and how well/ easily did it come off? We are facing the same dilemma regarding clear shower glass enclosures for 2 different showers. I don't want to see any family members showering or be seen. I don't think it's sexy when people actually really clean themselves with a washcloth/ loofah, shave themselves, use a foot-scrubber, etc. People need privacy to clean their private parts. I love how people say lock the door etc. The reality is all families are different with different routines. There are bathroom stress times with larger families; especially in homes with only 2 bathrooms. A cheap way to clean glass shower doors is to dilute DAWN dish soap liquid in a spray bottle. Spray glass and you can use a wet paper towel to rub it all over the glass too. Let it sit 10 to 15 minutes. You can either use a squeegee to get it off or rinse it off and then squeegee the water off or use microfiber towel. Dawn will not cause any damage to the glass or stone tile. I have seen people adding vinegar to the solution; the amount of vinegar added lessens the wait time and can add a pungent smell if lots of vinegar is added. Vinegar should not be used if you have any natural stone tile. Note: This Old House uses Dawn dish soap with vinegar & baking soda to clean grout lines and then re-seals the grout....See MoreTrash - where do you keep yours and do you like it?
Comments (22)We also have much more recycles than trash. So I need a larger bin for recycle, and a small one for trash. I like the idea of keeping the trash smaller because it will get emptied more often too. I want to keep the pull out narrow so not to give up much cabinet space. So the trick is to find 2 trash can that are narrow, and together take up about 24" depth. The double bins I saw on Rev-a-shelf were all at least 12 - 15" wide, and much less than 24" deep. Also they are much shorter than under counter height, so not an efficient use of space. The photo from Judydel looks closest to what I want. What other brands should I look at? We also started composting recently. Right now I just use an old bread bag to collect stuff during the day, and then dump it in the compost bin after dinner clean-up. My BFF was composting years before it was fashionable. She didn't even have a disposal. She keep a small pretty ceramic pot w/lid on her counter next to the sink. She lined it with a bread bag, and collected her veggie scraps there. Every other day she would dump the contents into the compost pile. So I plan on getting a "compost pot" for my counter too....See MoreWhat do you keep on your countertops?
Comments (12)I too am keeping my kitchen counters "cleaner" since the remodel. I have a lot more space in my cupboards and drawers since I went to full extension and frameless cabs. What a difference in a small kitchen (9' X 11"). I have a small desk organizer (actually it is a square basket at the moment but I will be switching it out for a small organizer) to hold a pen and sticky notes for phone calls (it's next to the phone)and a box of tissues. I have my spoon and pot lid holder next to the stove. I have my knife block and a small towel rack to hold my two towels. That is it! For the entire kitchen! I get to enjoy my beautiful granite. Of course, right now, I have my Kitchenaid out as I am doing practice runs on items I will be entering in the county fair baked goods contests, but that is it for appliances. My mixer and other appliances are in my step-in pantry. Everything else is in cupboards and drawers. Very different from my "prior" kitchen. BTW, I hate coffee so no coffee maker, nor a toaster. I don't eat bread (crazy huh?--just never started again after I lost a lot of weight--now I just have to stop eating the stuff I am making for the fair!)...See MoreWhere do you keep your bread? Comments (51)Very interesting responses! Mags438 I was totally laughing about your dog, that is a new one to me, a bread loving dog haha. Cindy Noll, does the SS drawer help your breads stay fresher? These comments have given me some good ideas. I find we will have tortillas, hoagie rolls, sandwich bread, take and bake breads, etc. and it looks so cluttered on the counter. Texas Gem my daughter has stopped eating sandwiches which creates the problem of what to give her for lunch. Hummus and pita, cheese and crackers, lunchmeat rolls, leftovers (if at home) or school hot lunch! I probably could give her mac and cheese, chili or spaghetti in a thermos, but most of my stuff is packed up still from out move (awaiting renovation). Sometimes she'll still take a peanut butter and honey sandwich. :)...See Moregabbythecat
