That's one of the complexities of genealogy I've discovered - sites appear and disappear, links take you to interesting possibilities and then you can't find your way back again. I've bookmarked many web addresses that have folded. It can be frustrating, especially since I'm still a novice at this and I'm sure I've missed valuable leads. Traditionally in Ireland Maire would be pronounced Moy-ra, however since the Anglicized version is Mary you now hear both pronunciations. The Irish used the name Muire to refer to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and used Maire as the common name for girls. My father wanted the Irish spelling and pronunciation but my Mom wanted the English version - so I'm Mary (but Dad always addressed my cards Maire). It is a highly invasive, toxic weed. I spent two summers pulling it out by the trash bag full from the roadside of our property. It pushed out my daisies and brown-eyed susans.

Ok, after running all over, Hallmark (they had one itty, bitty tin one and a selection of 3 ring binders for recipe cards) Walmart, another thrift store or two. I have a winner!!!! Well it's ok and seems to be functional enough. Michaels only had one unfinished wooden one that was the typical very small size. I got it at Hobby Lobby in the home decor section. Fits 4x6 cards with a little extra height for dividers with tabs (that I'll make using some card stock I purchased) They had a bunch of decorative boxes but only one that would work for recipe box. Too bad the other styles didn't come in the size I needed that I liked the looks of better. I think I found a missing niche' that needs to be filled. It was 14.99 but all the home decor was 50% off. They also had a decent selection of good recipe cards that were a good sturdy thick paper like they are supposed to be. Yes!!!! Success.

Not so happy ☹️ The shipping date has been changed twice now, and the latest estimate is the end of March. I am not hopeful it will happen even then and I need to get this stuff off the dining room table. I really like this one but it isn’t available either. I’ve emailed the company to find out when they estimate it will be back in stock. The same company has a larger one that is available, and I could certainly use the space, but the proportions of this one are much better. Anyway, I am still on the hunt and have split the difference and set my upper limit at $1250. Ironically I could go to the Scott’s antique show in Atlanta but there is no way I am going in a building with that many people, masked or not. (and this is the Georgia that still has no statewide mask mandate for indoor shopping!)
