Comments (7)My mom was given a spoon, fork, knife and napkin ring all of the same lightweight metal and all engraved with her name. She said these were gifts to her at the time of her birth(79 years ago). The knife had markings...Gebr Grah, Solingen odysseuswerk, A.-G, Rost FREY(or I). It was very difficult to get all the letters visualized so some may be incorrect. I see a comment above with the same markings but the responses to that post were quite vague. I would like very specific information if I can get it as I know not much about vintage or other objects. Does anyone know what this means? Where from? Comments (14)We have a biig honkin' chest freezer in our basement. I buy in bulk from Sam's Club and the grocery store when things are on sale. I also froze and stored many meals for the remodel. I recently replaced a 40 year old chest freezer with a more energy efficient one, and consider it a 'must have' in my house. Here is the criteria I'd use when shopping: I like baskets that can be moved around, and I like dividers. They take up space, but I actually bought a slightly larger sized freezer than the one I had previously to make sure that I had room for them. Otherwise, you could use plastic bins to help organize. Organization in a chest freezer is key, otherwise things will drift to the bottom and be lost forever. I have a spot for poultry, pork, beef, etc. I have a separate space for cooked meals, so I usually know where to look when I'm down there 'shopping'. My most recent freezer came from Sears. We never buy anything from Sears, but it's actually made by Frigidaire, it had the nice baskets and dividers, and the price was really good at the time, so we bought it. It's a big cold box, not a lot to go wrong with it unless the compressor gives out. For insurance, I put freezer packs or the occasional bottle of frozen water around to act as 'heat sinks' if the power goes out for more than a night or two. Comments (10)Oh my! I don't blame you for not wanting to spend that much, especially since I can't imagine a woven chest keeping out the weather completely. I would think snow and rain would find it's way through for sure. We had one set of PVC wicker deck chairs that cracked to the point of nor return from the cold in the winter and another set that cracked from the heat of the sun. They literally over baked. Comments (20)I like rustic pates too. A bit of boasting. Here is my one-man dining set, with items moved closer together to get them all in one frame. All were culled in the past few months from my thrift-shop antique hunting adventures. The most expensive of them all was the silverware at $42 for 12 forks and knives. -- The plate is 13 inches across and is made of copper with silver plating peeling off. Judging by the concentric ridges, it looks like it was hand-turned. There are engravings around the lip. I am told it is probably from the arts and crafts era, 1875 to 1920s. -- The Rogers Bros. silverware rests atop a wooden box with metal accents. There is a mirror inside the lid, so maybe it was a make-up kit? Unsure of age. But I figured with the mini-treasure chest look I could justify it as a silverware holder. -- The pitcher/tankard holds 3 cups and is VERY heavy solid cast brass. Handle is welded on, not screwed or riveted. Unsure of a age but a local dealer told me it is probably at least 150 years old, maybe more. -- The trivet is also sold brass and from an estate (so the vendor tells me) of a family that had it for more than 100 years. I am told the pattern is still reproduced by Colonial Williamsburg. -- The tole is hand-painted metal. Unsure of age. But looks early to mid 20th century to me. I like but don’t love all of these above. The red lacquer one is the smallest and the opening is a single cavity, so it would require stacking trays inside. I like the last one best but it is in terrible shape and is much too expensive for the condition as it would have to be completely refinished. 
3 years agoI have a 4 drawer silver chest in the attic. Unfortunately, its legs got lost in the last move. I keep thinking they’ll show up, but after 6 years, I probably ought to face reality. Mine is what F2BH didn’t want...Queen Anne legs.

3 years agoWhat about a lingerie chest? They take height, but not much width. Line the drawers, or add inserts for the silver.

Not so happy ☹️ The shipping date has been changed twice now, and the latest estimate is the end of March. I am not hopeful it will happen even then and I need to get this stuff off the dining room table. I really like this one but it isn’t available either. I’ve emailed the company to find out when they estimate it will be back in stock.
The same company has a larger one that is available, and I could certainly use the space, but the proportions of this one are much better.
Anyway, I am still on the hunt and have split the difference and set my upper limit at $1250. Ironically I could go to the Scott’s antique show in Atlanta but there is no way I am going in a building with that many people, masked or not. (and this is the Georgia that still has no statewide mask mandate for indoor shopping!)
