Are you going to leave the trim white? If so, I would suggest a medium base shade -- nothing too dark, but something that will contrast nicely w/the white cabs. Your idea to go w/something in the b/s is a good one. You could do a taupe (benjamin moore has one in its affinity line that I like right now called "pashmina"), khaki, grey-green (e.g. like restoration hardware's silver sage), or even a subdued yellow (although the yellow may compete w/the wood counters).

The problem with a really brown shade is that it will dull down the appearance of your wood countertops. The counters read as red-gold. The highest contrast to that would be a blue green. A more yellow green would pick up the gold and be a softer contrast. A more blue tone, like a spruce or a deep blue-gray, could be very soothing.

If you want to stay with warmer colors, try going for a good value contrast (i.e., light vs. dark). A reddish beige tone, for instance.

All of these tones are in your backsplash tiles (I'm assuming you were showing us the mosaic, not the hidden subway tiles). The best way to choose paint is to get samples of all the different colors you think you could like, paint large patches of each on different walls, and see how they look in different lights. Daylight, shaddow, rainy light, electric light, etc. Some which look fabulous in one light look dreary in another. One, at least, should look good whenever you catch sight of it.

I was going to suggest a grey/green/sage color as well. SW Grassland is pretty.

For taupes, I like SW Wool Skein, Worldly Gray, and Amazing Gray.

btw, I used that sumi-e tile for my backsplash, too, but in a different color. You're going to love it!

I've been looking everywhere for something like that to catch my eye. Can any of you help direct me to kitchen similar with that color cabinetry? Thanks. Sorry to horn in on your post. Great suggestions. I had planned on keeping the trim white, but it does need to be painted so I might be up for changing colors.

The green subway tile shown in the example photo is similar to what I am considering, but I am probably going to use a recycled glass tile from Sandhill Tile.

Maybe a medium shade of gray would be good, that way it wouldn't drown out the oak counter tops.

I love the tile you're showing. If it weren't for the cost I would have done our bath in a gorgeous brown and green onyx mosaic I fell in love with. In any case, in your case I think I would have white as my dominant color and brown a calm secondary, with green the accent that sparks it all off. I agree that the trim could be in one of the browns, including the window, which would help focus attention on the view outside and its own set of greens and browns.

BM Baby Turtle is a nice color too.

I am in the same situation myself, except my reno isn't quite as far along as yours. I'm looking at greens myself, I have BM Jamesboro Gold in the dining room, so I'm looking at colors like BM Olive Branch, Fernwood Green, Grasslands or something fresher like Spring Green.
I notice you have an Electrolux range in your kitchen it looks like the same one I currently have sitting in my living room waiting to be installed. It looks great!

I took your inspiration photo and added the colors of your kitchen to it. I think any of the colors on top would work nicely. The second and third ones do look a little lighter here than in the program I used to create them. Love your choice of tile!

I think I am going to get some paint samples in the light brown, gray, and blue shades. I'll paint them on the walls and see how they look. I like the idea of a gray blue color, but I think it might look funny with the green subway tile.
