Another Egg question

I am just wondering and probably should just google, but thought it is more fun to get the opinion here -

How do fresh eggs need to be stored, in the fridge or out in the pantry?

In US, eggs were always sold refrigerated and I always kept them in fridge as well. Where I live now, the eggs are sold from regular shelve like bread is and many seem to keep them out at home as well. I have no idea how long the eggs have been out when I buy them and take home. I still keep them in the fridge myself. Have used them in many ways and have had no health problems. So what is the scoop?
