I will go to the early service at church with our oldest daughter and husband, have the breakfast then come home and get our family dinner started. We will probably eat around 1:30.

We don't have a set menu for holidays but this is what we are going to have so far that I know.

Can't top that one...I will have 15 and we are having the following all prepared by me! We will hunt Easter eggs probably for the last time this year. They will nibble on Rotel dip and fritos throughout the day.

We always go to my parent's house. The menu may change, but there is always a egg hunt. My Dad makes out a map and sets out around 200 plastic eggs (each contains between a quarter and about $2.00). Even though 2 of the 4 kids are now in college.. they still plan to take part in the egg hunt. I don't know when they will decide they are too old. It's nice though because it really is the only time my DD really does anything with my brother's kids. DD found the most eggs last year and she ended up with about $60.!

It is just 3 of us,ame as always.Son is too old to hunt eggs,but still expects an easter basket.We are having the following,all prepared by me.

Easter baskets, colored eggs, brunch -I'm thinking scrambled eggs, assortment of meats (bacon, sausage,ham), fruit salad, and coffee. Dinner later will be ham, sweet potatoes, salad and cake. It's just four of us. DH, me, our two daughters 19 and 20.

There will be 5 for sure, possibly 6. Of course there HAS to be Easter baskets, DD's fiance isn't a big sweets eater...so he will get a case of Coke! LOL The girls are 23 & 25 and said that even when THEY have kids, they still expect their own Easter baskets! LOL (Spoiled?? yep...and I will spoil them!)

I will be going to church Sunday morning. I'll go earlier than usual to watch the twins hunt Easter eggs there (as long as it isn't raining). At 1pm I will go to my neighbor's house. She always has a big party for her family and friends. They will have face painting, pony rides, an egg hunt and lots of food. Later that evening, I'm hoping that Nita will be here by then, we will go out to my oldest DS and DIL's house for dinner. It will be a full day.

I have something special for the twins, but not my kids. It's been years since they had baskets.

Lately I usually relax at home. Easter isn't a biggie to me, well, holidays aren't big to me. I have a rack of baby back ribs thawing and if I feel up to it I probably will cook them up, maybe some sour cream/chive potatoes and corn and what else depends on how I feel. Or I might just go out. I've been trying to work on income taxes this weekend but have been having some computer problems so I'm taking a break.

But seeing the turkey breast mentioned... I'm tempted to head to the store!

I forget, and burn the dinner rolls.

We used to meet my husband's two sisters and their families at MILs house. MIL made a big dinner but we girls would bring a side dish or dessert. One year I made a big tray of antipasto. MIL used to do egg hunts for the kids, putting coins in plastic eggs and hiding them. MIL died in 2005 and the tradition has ended. No one wants to do the holidays anymore. Too bad. I miss it.

Gosh, everything sounds so good. No dinner company until Thursday, so I think I'll slip quietly into Arosegirl's house (she's already having 15--she'll never notice) and devour the banana pudding--that's after I raid Sue of the chicken and noodles! Voila! Dinner done!! Everybody's dinners sound so good--you guys sure cook a lot of things for one meal!!

I grew up with Slovak Easter traditions. We'd make pascha (egg bread), hrudka (simple egg cheese), pisanki (elaborately decorated hard-boiled eggs), chrin (horseradish), kolachki (sweet rolls filled with nuts or poppyseed), kolbasi (sausage), ham, etc.

Then, the night before Easter, each family would take a basket with some of each food and a candle to the church. We'd lay the baskets on long white cloths and light the candles and turn out the lights, and the priest would go up and down the aisles, blessing the food. It was a beautiful, community-oriented time.

There were traditional, important church celebrations every day from the Wednesday before Easter to the Tuesday after.

The generation that knew how to say all the prayers in Slovak is gone now. I can make all the foods, as can some of my cousins, but it's not the same. Most of us no longer attend the church where we grew up, the one made up of a bunch of Slovak people who used to live in the same town, then got on a boat and moved to the same neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio.

This year, my kitchen is torn up and I can't make anything. But I'll still exchange the traditional greeting with my cousins tomorrow. Christos Voskrese! Christ is risen! It'll just be by email.:)

Growing up we had a big family gathering and egg hunt.

Now it's just us. We don't do church the rest of the year, so we don't go just for Easter, either. We actually cook out, sorta the first time for the season. If another family/friends are around we might get together with them. I do hide filled plastic eggs for my kids. The older ones insist they aren't going to hunt, but usually end up looking for the last, hard to find ones anyway. The kids look forward to this low-key tradition.

I gotta say I miss the old days' get-togethers. I do remember Ma would hide our Easter baskets and we had a small house so there weren't a LOT of hiding places but I do remember the hunts a few times. Plus the family get-togethers then. I miss the aunts & uncles coming over or going to their places. It really wasn't anything super-special, except the food was always a big deal, otherwise it was mostly "visiting", and possible a rare card game by the adults. Kids knew to behave (so guess how many years this has been! LOL OK, don't get all up in arms...) But still it's good memories. I guess even as a kid, I appreciated and enjoyed the simple things in life. And since my mother died, things went downhill in a lot of ways. She held a lot of things together. And of course many of the aunts & uncles are now gone too so it's not the same and I realize it shouldn't be. I just preferred the way it was. Traditions change, which is fine. I don't oppose change. Just oppose change for the worse.

Today's option of a family get-together? Back-stabbing interlopers getting together with con-artists, slugs and lazy b*stards while a "peacemaker" goes around trying to get everyone to forgive and forget.... Just doesn't appeal to me. I'll enjoy quieter times with true friends.

When I was a little girl my Neighbor, who was German would bring over a basket filled with wild flowers. That was for the Easter Bunny to deliver goodies.

We would wake up to little trinkets and candy in the basket. Even after we moved and I was grown with children of my own we carried out that tradition. We would put all the wild flowers in a basket and wait for the EB to deliver goodies.

My mom is German also and we always did the same thing! I just thought the whole world did that but when I got older I found out how lucky I was. Easter has always been filled with special memories for me, made even more special when I found out our family was the only one that knew about this ritual. Another thing my mom always did was build the Easter Bunny a nest out of hay when I was younger but as I grew older she switched to easter grass. I could never make mine look like hers. My Omi would send me a sugar bunny from Germany. The second year in a row for me not to really celebrate like I want to, but next year my posts will be pages long LOL
