Help me please. I need to connect a brass pipe to a copper pipe

I am rerouting the water pipe in my kitchen(a 1920's house) and cut what I thought was a copper pipe under the floor. As it turns out it is not copper. I tried sweating a copper fitting and it doesn't work.

I think it may be brass or from what I am reading a galvanized pipe.

How can I tell what the pipe is? the pipe I cut is "brass like" in color, with an ID 5/8" & OD 7/8"

How can I connect it to a reducer or a compression joiner to connect it to copper or pex ?

I have been reading about the corrosive issues with dissimiliar metal connections and want to avoid them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The cut pipe is coming up from a finished basement so it is not so easy to just replace it completely.
