maybe this green? ... or maybe, or maybe this one?

this is the first time i have asked for advice on a color-choice dilemma ... so here goes, my laundry room is approximately 10x10 & really drab, drab, drab ...

i want to make it bright & cheerful ... i have attached pictures of b.m. paint samples i have had taped to the walls for many, many months ... (hubby hates them all) ... i, however, LOVE them all; so i win (grin) ...

the fabric will be the window treatment (one window; north-facing; so it is a fairly dark room ... the beadboard will cover the walls ...

we also have cabinets in here, computer etc. ... which leads me to another question: i would really like to have the washer & dryer enclosed in a closet .... & wallah, i would then have my own little *office* ... what to you think? ... remember, the room is about 10x10 so i *think* it is doable ...

the colors are, reading from top left:

1) stem green 2029-40 ...... 2) tecquila lime 2028-30

3) spring moss 2027-20 ..... 4) dark lime 2027-10

5) pear green 2028-40

I vote for tequilla lime. Just love those vibrant greens.

Just to add to your confusion, you might consider BM Wales green -- It's a nice apple green without being *too* overwhelming.

I don't think it is stranglebrand. I have seen it in person on a friend's plants and I don't think it is it. She had gotten some nursery plants and they had various stages of the lesions. We went back to that nursery and sure enough, there were more just like hers! For one SB is usually a lesion with a dark ring around it. If left to heal on its own then it starts to get a dry-rotted appearance to it. To me, yours looks more like some type of split in the trunk that stayed wet or got some type of fungal thing going on but not SB. One time one of mine got a split and I ended up digging a big caterpillar out of it lol. I let it heal and it began to look like your photo of the knot looking brug. ~SJN

Mac- No don't call it Sweet Innocence. That is a named sport from a different hosta. (Fragrant Bouquet). Yours has different genetics. You get to pic a name for your sweet one! I looked at the data base at the Hosta Library and it shows NO named sports for Frozen Margarita. You have have a new sport there! Congrats! Now you need to grow it for a few years to see if it keeps those edges, and to get the mature size of the plant and leaves, flowers, etc. -Babka

Interesting. It looks like a really good candidate. Does that happen often? I thought it was dead when we moved into the house and was surprised when it grew the next year. Its probably a once bloomer. Last year it got mites or some sort of bug and it didn't do very well after that so I'm not positive its a once bloomer, but it probably is. The flowers average more around 3" diameters as opposed to 2". Petal count is more along the lines of 14 - 20+. Anything special I need to know about Dr. Huey?

SS11 has gone through several stages like that. He's in one now, actually. Our approach has been multipronged: - We remind him that he wants privileges (such as being allowed to go to the store alone) but that privileges come with showing maturity and responsibility. Lying doesn't show those things and makes it hard for us to believe he is ready for the things he would like to do or have. - We've had him write apology letters or write a list of 5 reasons that lying is wrong. None of the reasons can relate to getting caught or being punished. - We've explained to him that we greatly prefer to trust him. It's easier and happier for everyone if we don't have to police his every move. We've presented it like this: "A__, you don't like when we nag you and check on your every move, right? You like when we trust you and give you your own space. Well, when you lie to us about simple things, like brushing your teeth, it shows us that we NEED to be nagging you and checking on your every move. If we could trust that you'd brush your teeth when asked to, we wouldn't have to pester you about and it wouldn't turn into a fight. If there's no fight, then everybody is happier." Then he sees that our actions (nagging him) are a direct result of his actions (lying to us) and is more willing to change his actions. - We issue rewards for completed tasks. If he wants to watch a show that will be end a bit later than his usual bedtime, so we say "If you are ALL ready for bed BEFORE the show starts, then yes, you can stay up late to watch it. So that means you have to have your backpack ready for tomorrow, be showered with your teeth brushed, and in your pajamas. If ANY of those things aren't done by the time the show starts, then no show. Deal?" He knows that we mean it. If he skips something, he won't be watching and it will be his own fault. - This one is underhanded and a bit manipulative. We don't use it regularly. SS is always really worried about what other people think - he doesn't do well in social situations or make friends very easily, which is too bad because he's a nice boy and I've seen that he is a loyal friend. So we've reminded him that people don't like liars. We've said "People don't want to be friends with someone who lies to them. No one wants a friend they can't trust; they want a friend who will be truthful." For this case, we thought a little peer pressure might be a good thing, although it isn't a technique I'd usually advocate. - For personal hygiene issues, we've shown him pictures of gum disease and so on. He also doesn't like to brush his teeth or bathe. We explained that we don't tell him to do these tasks to spite him, but so that he is healthy and well. "Yup, brushing your teeth is a pain in the butt. But we don't make you do it to be mean to you or to think up clever ways to torment you. We make you brush your teeth because it's important for your health. ~Insert explanation of gum disease, complete with photos, here~. Now do you understand why it's important for you to brush your teeth?" We've had to do this roughly once a year since he was about 8. - And, of course, we try to praise and be positive for the things he does when asked and for telling the truth. To be honest, I get a bit frustrated with having to tell an 11yo that he did a good job because he put his dirty clothes in the laundry basket, or praise what a very good choice it was that he told us the truth about something... But he needs it, so I do it. I think it will continue to be an ongoing battle for us, for the same reason you just mentioned. SS doesn't really understand cause and effect or that actions cause reactions.

Oh, I thought for a second that you'd painted checks! You know, I like that idea...checkerboard of all those colors, with a bit of white in between.

Otherwise, my pick is spring moss.

pear green! love the combo (I'm doing same in my kit-- black and cream toile with green). sorry I couldn't pick one someone else had already picked:-) But I don't think you can go wrong; they're all great.

BUT..I really like the idea "pesky" had..checkerboard with some white added, now that is fun!

I like pear green. Try to stay away from anything too blue.

It's going to be a really lovely room.

I like the pear green too. Stem looks too minty and the others too garish. You might look at Dill Pickle too!

Pear for me too. The others would be too overwhelming and bright, imo. Stem is nice but looks a bit minty from here. I think you could go more intense if that's what you're after, but not as sharp as the lime or moss. I'd knock the edge off of those.

If you're after a bright lime, take a look at similar ones but knocked down a bit -- BM Candy Green (403) or Chic Lime (396 - yellower than Candy). Apples & Pears is a softer verion and a bit lighter (395).

Pear Green is perfect with the toile. The others are a bit to over powering against the toile.

Another vote for the Pear. I'm green over here with envy as I think this is going to look absolutely fantastic, and I really need to do something with my own laundry room. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

hey! thanks for all the answers ... certainly seems the winner is pear ... i like it; but it comes across sorta greyish to me ... hmmmm

the very first answer was from parma (tecquila lime) & that is the choice i have been leaning toward over these many months! ... too gaudy?? ... i have never used a bright color for paint; so i can't envision what it would look like ...

squirrel ... you said if i liked lime or moss that i should "knock the edge off" .... does that mean ask them to dilute the paint? .... the other colors you suggested aren't in my fan deck (color preview) ... i will definitely go to the paint store & check them out ... you are so good with colors ...

Tequila Lime is just one removed from the Pear on the BM color preview strip. I suggested it because you sounded like you really wanted to punch it up. Going with the middle color on a strip is usually safe (that's what I have been doing and really wish I would have gone a bit bolder).

Whatever you choose, if you don't like it you can always paint over lighter or darker. 10x10 wouldn't be that difficult.

If you want bold, try SW Sassy green. I saw it on the greens thread and automatically pictured it next to your toile curtains.

That's my SW Sassy Green dining room in the gallery. I can confirm that it is an awesome color -- very much inline with what you seem to be after. I sampled a LOT of greens. I also liked BM Dill Pickle a lot, though it was a bit too light for me.

If I were you, I'd compare Sassy Green to the Tequila Lime. If the Lime is a LOT brighter than Sassy Green, you may want to go a little more muted. Sassy Green is plenty bright and bold, and I know the more vibrant colors I tried were scary when I splotched.

I do like the Tequila Lime the best of those you posted.
