Oh I like that scale Tricia!

I made a shortbread recipe that originated from Australia and the flour, butter and sugar were in grams.
It was a bit of a pain, using my scale, and I'm not sure how accurate my measurements were. But it tasted good!

Cute, yes, but sort of impractical if you're trying to weigh more than a couple strawberries. If you want to weigh out a specific amount of flour you'd constantly be putting the bowl on and off and guessing instead of weighing it to the amount you need. This is better suited as a postage scale IMO, where you need to know what a particular item weighs rather than arrive at a measurement of something. And for the money, the Aldi scale was $10 and is not really that tough to deal with size-wise. Set it on end in a cupboard or on the counter, and it'd fit in a drawer too.

The description says,"Despite its small size, the scale has enough surface area to weigh several cups of sugar or flour."

I think it weighs enough at one time for home recipes. It wouldn't be cute if it didn't serve a practical function, mini-size.

Those digital scales are very practical.

They measusre in both OZ and metric.

They also set your container to "0" weight. So you can use any large container to weigh things.

They are surpricingly accurate. I have checked mine against some laboratory weights.

If you have one, try weighing a few objects. Weigh the same objects every few months to make sure that the calibration has not shifted due to aging or battery strength.

I LOVE IT!!! I scale my balls of dough for dinner rolls, burger and hot dog buns and this little "guy" would be perfect for that application. I have 3 scales and I use them all the time, and use each one for different applications. Thanks for the link... -Grainlady

You missed my point. In order to weigh the flour and such you'd have to put a bowl on it that would probably cover the readout. I guess it's not worth trying to explain further, either you get it or you don't. Not a big deal.

No, cynic. I "get it". I just don't think you read the description very well. From the description...

It worries me that so many pocket size digital scales which can measure to 0.1 g accuracy are being sold.

It seems to me that most of them are used for "medicinal" purposes.

And a helpful hint: put your scale into a ziplock bag and use it in the bag. Don't take it out except to change the batteries. Stays in like-new condition.

I would like a digital scale like that. To weigh bicycle parts.

Sitting around debating weighty (yuck yuck) questions like is it worth replacing the steel nuts and bolts in my brakes with titanium ones. Accuracy of 10 grams is not sufficient for that purpose.

Ridiculous? Not really. I've heard of people replacing steel ball bearings with ceramic balls, and inflating tires with helium. Those are real weight weenies.

$72 in Ti bolts to save 32 grams from the brakeset. Hmm. Maybe I'll just go potty before each ride. Or double down on the diet.

The bike I'm building will never feel a lock brush its smooth carbon cheeks. Errand duty is what my other bikes are for.

I bought a kitchen scale around a year ago. I was misdiagnosed with celiac disease and I live alone, so I wanted it to help me accurately reduce the size of some recipes. I am no longer on a gluten free diet but I do still use the scale, most recently when I used a pie crust mix and wanted enough for only one crust. I appreciate the opportunity for accuracy and would definitely replace it if it broke.

cynic - FWIW I "get it" and I completely agree.

Nine times out of ten (at least) when I use my scale it's not to weigh a set amount of product, but rather to add ingredients until I reach a desired weight. If you can't see the display as you're adding, the hold button is not going to do you much good.

Certainly cute though, I hope you guys like it!
