medication for osteoporosis - results

Someone had posted on this topic not too long ago and I just got some new results on my situation that I thought I'd share for anyone who wonders about whether to take the meds or not. I'm only in my early 50's and have osteoporosis in my right hip due to an above knee amputation for cancer many years ago. No weight bearing on that side though I wear a prosthetic leg all the time.

Anyway, I've had three bone density tests over the last six years - first one was a baseline, second one diagnosed osteoporosis in right hip, osteopenia in left hip and normal spine. So for about the last 18 months I've been taking the generic version of Fosamax.

Just had my third BMD test. Left hip is now normal and both spine and left hip showed significant improvement in bone density. Right hip is still in the osteoporosis category but also improved from previous levels.

So I will be happily continuing to take the meds. The results exceeded my expectations. I was just hoping things wouldn't get any worse.
