Yes! Whole Foods is where I got the recipe a couple years ago. It's wonderful stuff.

I like to use just a teeny pinch on warm from the oven chocolate chips.

It really is great on fish and/or chicken & I wouldn't be hesitant to suggest that useage. It's so vibrant in flavor you need just a tiny bit for big flavor - great for those trying to reduce their salt useage.

The main one I am thinking about is a very sensible wife to a cardiologist, so yes, on the less salt idea.

How about "citrus" pepper? You see lemon pepper in jars, but I bet FIRST ingredient just might be SALT?? Was making a BIG batch of real lemon-ade and my frugal bones started aching at the loss of all that zest that I just didn't need at the time... maybe 8-10 lemons. SOOOO hauled out rarely used apple peeler/corer. Moved the corer part out of the way and just stuck on lemons. Ended up with a HUGE pile of lemon zest ribbons. Laid them out to dry till pretty crispy then ground in coffee grinder (just for spices).

Pepper sounds good too. I probably would use white pepper if I were making "citrus pepper". White is better on fish, to me, so I sort of envision it like that. As I was wandering around looking for recipes yesterday, I kept finding all kinds of flavored salt recipes (asian for instance). It was amazing the types of things people came up with! The possibilties are endless. Right up there with compound butters, flavored oils, and... don't get me started.

There's a citrus-herb seasoning salt in the current issue of Everyday Food that sounds good. I have the citrus salt mix in the oven now. I think I'll try this as well.

Citrus-Herb Seaspning Salt

Prep Time: 5 mins Total Time: 5 mins Serves: 25, Yield: 1 cup

"from issue 88 of "everyday food" by martha stewart comes this recipe"

Ingredients:
3/4 cup coarse salt 2 tablespoons lemon zest 4 teaspoons dried rosemary, 3 teaspoons dried thyme 3 teaspoons dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Directions:

combine & serve on food of your choice.
Store in an airtight container,up to 3 months.

Quick Ideas

Rub onto chicken, pork or fish before baking.

Toss with warm roasted nuts as a snack.

Sprinkle over balsamic vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil to make a dipping sauce for bread.

Use as a topping for popcorn.

Combine with cream cheese and Greek yogurt and serve as a dip with pita wedges or crackers.

Question....I blended my mixture a little much and it's about the texture of Kosher salt at best. Would you still gift it? Guess I need to respect my blender more, didn't know it worked so well...so quick.lol

Didn't think it wasn't right, but because it is ground so fine, it just looks different. I don't think the taste would be affected though. It's probably all going to family and they all know I'm incompetent.lol
