new kitchen plan-need ideas please

given the economy, we've decided to keep plugging away at our remodel and put off selling for now. one of the choices we've made is to remove the woodburning stove in the living room and install an outside wood boiler one of these days.

so, that leaves the wall between the kitchen and that part of the living room kind of blank.

popular opinion is that i should open that wall and create a large counter and seating area there, since everyone always congregates around the kitchen anyway and when ever we have guests they are always standing around in the 12x16 space.

plus, this is a ski house, it has a large l-shape for dining and socialising, which means i have to actually shoo people out of the kitchen into the great room.

so, the opening can only be around four or five feet, since this is a load bearing wall with lots of plumbing and electrical stuff in it already.

i've been searching for pictures of kitchens which open to the great room with a big bar height seating area and have had little luck. help!?
