I think a rectangular or square coffee table in a smooth leather would look good, since your seating is upholstered in fabric. I think the round shape looks good when it is sort of surrounded or boxed in on three sides with chairs, loveseats, sofas, etc. Having a round shape between just one chair and a sofa would look like it is just floating there.

kswl - I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't care for the round ottoman in this situation, but you hit the nail on the head. I have a round one in my family room, and it is "boxed in" by a couch and two chairs. When I tried it in this room, it just looked lonely. I hadn't thought of leather, but was considering a zebra print (black on greenish brown.) Thanks for the suggestion.

How about a table with wrought iron legs to match your corner shelf? Of course I am partial to glass but it isn't for every one. I wouldn't want anything too heavy looking for your room. Since your don't have leather furniture, I am not sure I would like a leather ottoman.

I found a few more selections while browsing the web yesterday. What do you think about these? Tufted? Smooth? I wouldn't be using a two-tone effect or the colors shown here, I chose them more for size and style. The room also needs to be painted, so I have the option of going darker there as well. I'm particularly drawn to the tufted rectangular one. Maybe because there's not a whole lot of texture to the room. WWYD?

I would prefer the smooth leather top for ease of care, although I like the "clubby" look of the tufted one. Tufted ottomans that are actually used (for feet and dogs in our house) get so much dust and stuff in the depressions around the buttons, they are difficult to clean. In decades of having houses looked after by two different housekeepers, their ONLY complaint was that tufted ottoman. We replaced it.

I don't especially care for the combination of leather and zebra print. Either is great on its own, though.

Do you mean the red with the zebra print? I love it but, in order to have it relate to the room, I think you'll need an area rug that pulls together all the colors. I love an area rug on wall to wall, gives the room a layered look which I love.

The rectangle ottoman would look great! I know you didn't ask, but I agree with YaYa on a rug over your carpet.

Oh, I wasn't considering the red mixed with zebra. I only selected this ottoman based on the shape and tufting. I did consider a black/brown zebra ottoman, but that's a little too much zebra for me. The carpet is going. It will either be replaced with wood or a darker carpet - still haven't made a decision. If we do wood, I will definitely be using a rug.

I'm looking at the sitting room and envisioning a rug over the carpet (the current color or new, doesn't matter)and I like the idea. Wood or no wood, I think a rug would really fill it up. Here is a pic of the other side of the room, taken from the couch. Wow, I didn't realize how boring my house is! lol. Now I'm thinking this room needs alot more than an ottoman and a rug!
