Both coffee table and ottoman in living room?

We recently purchased a sofa, loveseat, and large cocktail ottoman for our living room. We also purchased a small coffee table. Is it possible to use both without the living room looking overly cluttered? It's a fairly large room. Does anyone have any pictures that combine both an ottoman and a coffee table? Thanks for your help!

Well, I think it's hard to know whether the room will be overly crowded or cluttered without knowing the size of the room or seeing a picture, but to me, and this may be just my own opinion, but I think if you have a coffee table and an ottoman in the same room, the coffee table should be larger than the ottoman. Does that make sense to anyone else but me? Also, I just wonder if you even need a coffee table with such a big ottoman. You could put a tray on top of the ottoman and still have room for feet!

Hard to say without a picture of the space and a rough layout idea. I could see it if the space was large enough to support 2 seating groups. Both being used in a single group may look awkward.

I really Ike the colors and patterns that you have in the space. It is not so easy to combine patterns the way you have done. You seem to have a natural flair for this. I had also thought of a solid ottoman in an orange, as being an interesting possibility. i like the overstock piece, also. I'm a fan of #2. I always like the look of two club chairs side by side like that. I think having them together as one unit balances out the heft of a sofa and the huge TV. I agree that it makes sense to focus on the coffee table first. Are there any textures in your room? If everything is just flat wood, paint, and upholstery, I'd suggest a coffeetable that has a bit or texture or reflectivity to it. What kind of books are you looking to store in this room? I got a three tired brass and glass coffee table from West Elm recently and it is a fantastic place to display 12 huge art books. Better than a bookshelf. When people sit on the sofa, they actually gaze that the books, pull them out and read them. I like that.

I agree with sue. We have actually have 2 ottomans and one foot stool in our family room. The larger ottoman is more centered in the room and is used as a coffee table, has a tray to put things on. If your room is large enough it can work.

Sure... it's possible!

But there is no way of knowing if it will work in YOUR particular room without seeing the room.

It's very large so it could be used to divide a room or in place of a loveseat in a seating grouping. I do not think it would be wildly successful placed right next to or in front of a sofa.
